    Udon Thani Golf Society

Udon Thani Golf Society has introduced many hundreds of Farang expats to the Golf scene here in Udon.
Formed more than 15 years ago the Society provides a weekly competition that enables new players to attain their first handicap or have their existing one maintained.
Our members come from all Nationalities which gives the Society an International flavor. For many Farangs the Society assists in being the best avenue to meet new friends and also learn first hand from those who are based permanently in Udon or the surrounding areas.
Although the Society only plays once a week at Srithani Forest Golf Course ie Monday mornings, with an 8 15am tee off there are many opportunities to join smaller groups formed by members to play on the other days of the week.

Our Rules are simple,we play as close as possible to the Rules of Golf with a few Local Rules due to the conditions of the courses.
Correct Golf Etiquette is required by all members at all times to assist in creating a Social atmosphere. So if you are prepared to respect the right of others to enjoy their golf as well as your own and desire to be part of an organized social competition then Udon Thani Golf Society should be your first option.

We also provide you feedback on the best courses to play here and in Khon Kaen,Green and Caddy fees etc at each location.
The Society is a non profit organization and supports local charities from weekly donations. Currently we support the Udon Home for Children a most worthy cause.

Please feel free to contact us for any further information either through this Forum or at tka9944@yahoo.com or 0898316178.

I think it's fantastic that the Expat community can come together in Udon and just have a great day out.

I mean, I could not play golf for shite but I would front up just to have a laugh with these guys.

It's not about the golf but more about meeting other Expats in a general environment away from the Bar.

Saying that, I'm sure there are some great golfers amongst them.

All the best with it mate.

Similar to the Hash House Harriers [without the golf].
It's not so much about the activity - but the getting together and socializing.

Udon Golf Ubolrat Friday Round Competition

6th March 2015 Udon Golf Ubolrat Friday Competition.
A good group of guys turned up this morning at Ubolrat Dam in stifling heat to play our regular Friday Round.
The temperature was in the very high 30 degree range. Add to that high humidity and it was easy to see why some of us struggled especially on the back nine holes.
The course was in top condition with the greens a touch faster than usual.
Our low handicapper Jacques Messier made light of the heat though to record a 39 point round to win the day. Chuck Mc Cormick in a terrific return to form had 37 points to finish second with Trevor Edge also in form in third with 35 points.
Trevor Edge and Jacques Messier also were in the winner’s circle with their success in the two closest to the pin prizes on the 3rd and 12th par 3 holes.
Scores- Jacques Messier 39,Chuck Mc Cormick 37,Trevor Edge 35,David Exley & Peter Hellery 33,Denni Price & Gordon Hazel 31,Graham Firth, Jano Oman & Anders Nielsen 29,Terry Aston, Anders Lincoln &Per Hansen 27,Tony Jones 23.
Next Round is at Srithani Forest Golf Course Monday 9th March for our weekly Udon Society Round with an 8 15am draw.

Udon Thani Golf Society Round tomorrow morning 9th March at Srithani Forest Golf Course with a draw at 8 15am enabling tee off at 8 30am. Very hot weather forecast so don't forget your Electrolyte drink to make sure you hydrate continually on your round. Best to make sure also you have hydrated well pre your tee off, as Srithani can be extremely humid to start the day due to them watering the course around 6am. Format for tomorrow is Stableford which is a touch kinder than last weeks Stroke round.
Look forward to seeing you all there to enjoy the day.

Stable ford enables low and high handicappers to play together mate which is best for a Society such as ours.. We Play a Medal Round though first Monday each Month to cater for the Lower handicappers.

    Udon Thani Golf Society

9th March 2015 Udon Thani Golf Society Round.
Very humid conditions as expected at tee off this morning for our weekly Society Round at Srithani Forest Golf Course.
There was as normal a good social feel with the group in attendance and this we believe is as important as the Round itself.

Conditions were a touch below average as the course had not been maintained since the huge tournament they had there on Saturday.

Regardless of this though there were some really good scores recorded with Jereld Sawyer’s 40 points exceptional to win the day.
Mr Consistent Graham Firth was not far behind though in second spot with 37 points. Ian Barrett with 35 points came in third which again was a fine effort.
Both closest to the Pin prizes on the par 3 holes went to Anders Lincoln which is the first for a long time since one person has won both.

    Scores- Jereld Sawyer 40,Graham Firth 37,Ian Barrett 35,Anders Lincoln 34,John Cooke & Gordon Caygill 32,Jacque Messier 31,Tony Jones 30,Rex King 29,Terry Aston & David Exley 28,Chuck Mc Cormick 27,Gary Parks 21.

Gary Parks comment following his 21 points cracked me up when he stated is 21 points was a result of him not wanting to peak too early before the IFGG 2 day comp next Tuesday/Wednesday in Khon Kaen.

Next Monday’s Society Round will be as usual at 8 15am for deciding on groups and then 8 30am for tee off. Many of us will be absent due to the IFGG the following 2 days but we encourage those who are not involved in that to come along.

13th March 2015 UDON GOLF UBOLRAT FRIDAY RESULTS
Another good roll of 14 members today at Ubolrat for our weekly Friday Round. The course was extremely busy as there was a Tournament on to celebrate the Course’s 49th Year.
We were able to commence teeing off at 9 30am but it did take over 4 ½ hours to complete our rounds.
Surprisingly scores were low today which reflected more on the standard of play than the busy course and conditions.
Anders Lincoln with 37 points was the only player to shoot below his handicap and obviously won the day.
Jarno Oman with 34 points came second on a countback over Chuck Mc Cormick who scrambled as well as I have ever seen him do today.
Anders also won the only Closest to the Pin on the par 3, holes with no one getting on the green on the 5th.
Scores-Anders Lincoln 37, Jarno Oman & Chuck Mc Cormick 34.Terry Aston, Tony Jones & Jacque Messier 33,Jereld Sawyer 32,Graham Firth, Peter Hellery & Gordon Caygill 31,John Cooke & Trevor Edge 28,Denni Price 25, David Edge 23.

16th March 2015 Udon Golf Society Results.
It was great to see 6 members tee off this morning in very humid conditions at our Society Round at SRITHANI Forest Golf Course even though over the next 2 days, most will also be involved in the March IFGG round in Khon Kaen.
John Cooke made his final appearance for a while as he departs this Thursday back to Arizona.
Anders Nielsen won the day accumulating 36 points, Jereld Sawyer second with 33 points and Anders Lincoln 3rd on countback over John Cooke with 29 points.
Closest to the Pin on the 2 par 3 holes went to Anders Nielsen and Jacque Messier.
    Scores-Anders Nielsen 36,Jereld Sawyer 33,John Cooke & Anders Lincoln 29,Jacques Messier & Graham Firth 26 points.
Next Monday Society Round will see numbers back to normal, so if you wish to be involved be at Srithani by 8 15am for an 8 30am Tee off.

    16th March 2015 IFGG Results
Twelve of us teed off at Singha Pk this morning in very warm conditions.Course in great shape except for work in progress on the #1 Fairway.
Greens consistent but tough compared to what we have been accustomed to in Udon.
Ian Barrett won the day with an excellent 37 points narrowly from Peter Hellery with a super 36.
Closest to the pin prizes went to Tony Jones and Jarno Oman.
    Scores-Ian Barrett 37,Peter Hellery 36,Terry Aston &Jacque Messier 34,Denni Price&Rex King 33,David Exley 32,Gary Parks & Anders Lincoln 31,Tony Jones 30,Jarno Oman 29,Chuck Mc Cormick 18.
Chuck gets the honor of wearing the Crazy Hat for the first Tee off in the morning at Ubolrat.
2nd Day continues at Ubolrat and with the scores fairly close the Winner is well hidden.

    2015 IFGG RESULTS 16 /17th March 2015
Extremely hard work today on our 2nd day of the March IFGG at Ubolrat Dam Golf Course.
Aside from it being a discount day for Thai over 60 year golf Golfers which certainly made for slow going it was very hot and draining once again.
The slow pace certainly affected many of our members and there is no way we would play there again on a Wednesday any time after
    an 8 30am tee off.
Appropriately it was our youngest player in Guest Jarno Oman who won the day with 36 points from David Exley 34 and Rex King 33 points.
Terry Aston and Gary Parks won the only two closest to the Pin prizes.
Gary Parks reluctantly was awarded the Crazy Hat from a few very relieved members.
Chuck Mc Cormick got to keep the Wooden Spoon for the next Month until the April IFGG Round.
Peter Hellery with 36 points yesterday at Singha and 32 today took the Overall win with 68 points from Jacque Messier and David Exley both on 66 points.
Scores today were- Jarno Oman 36, David Exley 34, Rex King 33, Peter Hellery, Jacque Messier & Tony Jones 32, Anders Lincoln 28, Chuck Mc Cormick& Terry Aston 27, Gary Parks 25.

Udon Golf Society Results 23rd March 2015
    Srithani Forrest Golf Course
Interesting finish as 3 ended up on 36 points.
    On count back it was:
    1st: Jacques Messier
    2nd: Rudolph Fischer
    3rd: Ian Barrett
Only 1 nearest pin claimed by Jacques Messier.

Your best to get lessons from a pro Rick .

With the greatest respect to well meaning club members .

The problem is with a golf swing its all about repetition , now some well meaning club member can sure teach you to hit a ball the way he does , so i.e. you might well learn his hook , or another guy,s slice or push .

Problem is once its stuck in your mindset its a bugger to unlearn it and then learn how to do it properly.

A good golf swing will often feel uncomfortable for a while when starting out , if it feels really comfortable from the word go I would say theres a chance its gonna be fraught with probs later.

    Good luck with it mate
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs
