    Catch your own fish Restaurant

I have been playing around with a idea for sometime now, thought my idea maybe unique, though the Japanese have done it.

could be a idea for anyone in one of the major cities.

    My idea Is on farmland.

We have two plots of land one being 7 rai of good clay soil which holds water, though not next to Road, though could either rent or buy a plot of land next to us to connect to road

The other being a pond next to Euca trees that doesn't hold water to well, though could be extended though is next to land for car parking etc.

There would be walkways on the ponds and also rowing boats, its outside the village so music would not be a problem, security is the only issue i foresee, which could be the problem.

There would also be a VIP area, so the waanabes can look good

The restaurant would not pay any employers as i not want the complications, we would allow interested parties rent free to do the cooking.

Though they have to buy all there food supplies from us,including alcohol.

We would supply the fish, and considering rearing pigs ducks and chickens.

I understand that there are always drawbacks any valid opinions appreciated.

With the current situation of government here now a licence would be needed for the sale of alcohol

I have been in the hotel and catering business for over thirty years, and provide a consultancy service in UK though Thailand is different in many aspects of opening a business.

Scaling and cleaning fish is a messy job, especially for someone who has never done it before. I'd think you would have to have an employee to do at least that or you would only get real fishermen as customers.

I take my son to the lake here in the park and he catches carp and we take them to a nearby restaurant where the kitchen staff gut and clean them and cook and serve them, good fun for him.

Having read through the entire post I hate to be a negative Neal, but it seems like a silly idea.
You have a fishing pond, which is not at all unique, you say there would be a restaurant, but no employees, you would provide a kitchen for people to cook their fish, but no other dishes and no employees.
What about dishes and cutlery etc? I can't see people bothering to bring their own.
In fact the more I think about it the more I think you haven't thought it through at all. you say you would provide rent free facilities for people to cook their fish but what if 5 groups wanted to cook all at the same time.
    Music?? Alcohol???
But no food except the fish they caught and cooked themselves. Sounds like a recipe for mayhem.
Can you really imagine people being bothered to bring fishing gear as well as condiments and spices etc and whatever else you're not going to supply?
Back to the drawing board on this one I think.

Yes but you absolutely need a staffed restaurant selling that alcohol and cooking the fish (as well as a variety of dishes to accompany the fish)

By the way, my pics are linked to the TD gallery but aren't showing up.
    Can anyone else see them?

They already have catch your own fish restaurants.

In Bangkok, in Bali. Sure other places have them too, but the idea of guests cooking sounds a bit tricky.

I don't want to split hairs but in English, that's called a shop, not a restaurant.

Fishing is reasonably popular so if you have decent stock, somewhere nice for people to sit and you can stop them stealing all the fish in the middle of the night you can probably avoid losing too much money but the 'restaurant' side of this sounds a little ridiculous.

At last someone with a bit of savvy.

    Restaurant:

not as stupid as you may think, all chairs tables plates glasses etc all supplied by me, all the interested parties need do is cook, the poultry and meat would be below the cost of market prices so the cooks can make a decent wage for themselves, wife today has already been to some of the surrounding villages and asking her friends if interested and the answers were very positive the guy from the local radio station is a friend of mine and he will plug the place on his radio.

Your right though about the security thats the headache.

There are many such ventures around the globe renting out kitchen spaces.

    Yes, Indeed....

This types of fishing + restaurant type of business have been around forever - in numbers - certainly throughout the provinces where they have always gathered popularity. They might vary [in style and operations] from place to place.
