Smile New to Sawang Daen Din

Have recently arrived with Thai wife (1st Dec/2012) in Sawang Daen Din from Australia taking up residence in our newly constructed home. Would enjoy meeting other Expat's in area. I am now retired and we are opening up a restaurant in a month or two. Having a ball. Love the area, filled with our family members.

    Can be reached at chuti_paew@hotmail.com.

    Cheers

    Bill

So where is Saweng Daeng din, Bill? Welcome to the board. Ignore the Oz baiters, they have small peckers.

Hey Grasshopper. sawang Daen Din is 520k northeast of Bangkok in Sakon Nakhon on route 22 which ultimately leads to Laos. Population of around 150,000. Not many Expat's but a very large family all around our home. Have you lived in Thailand?

So far I am loving it and plan to remain here indefinitely.

    Thanks for your response.

    Ratchaburi,

Thanks for your kind welcome. Just arrived retired and ready for a new/different lifestyle after 46 years working my guts out. Wife's family is quite large and live all around us. Biggest issue is to learn to speak Thai so I can understand and communicate.

    Where are you located?

    Bill

    Baitongboy,

    Thanks for your kind welcome.

Where are you located? Sawang Daen Din is about 530k from Bangkok on route 22 which ultimately leads to Laos.

Only been one month but I am enjoying totally. My Thai wife and I live amongst a very large family located all around us with 19 kids so there is plenty of action. I retired after 46 years in the advertising agency and real estate game and am looking for new challenges. Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Bill

Sawang is a great spot, love living in the area, wife has the pizza/thai/farang food place near the bus station/market.

I'm only there half the time the rest working away.

A number of nice shop's for rent near us. And the coffee shop at Tesco is for sale too

Welcome to Sawang Daen Din Billy....... My Thai wife, (born nearby) and son and I, live in SDD near Chomdao resort...2 months per year at present, mainly Oz school holidays, and commute to Oz for quality Secondary School and work commitments. There are a lot of Expats and Ozzies scattered about the area. If you like the quiet semi rural life, and gentle breezes, it is a nice spot.

The Pizzas from "Kens"are OK ...but ordering is a lottery during the day, unless you read Thai, as the the waitress I struck on my first visit when I intended to order 4 pizzas...did not speak english and the menu's were only in Thai!.... I got put onto the "manager"? by mobile, to translate my order (not Ken!) and requested an English menu.....he told me "I don't have a menu in English as it encourages Falang's...and I don't really want them as customers"!!! So on that occassion I simply left without ordering.. So with that sort of business attitude they wont last long!
I did return in the evening a few days later and met the guy, who sadly claimed to have once been an Aussie!....His wife and the other staff are however very pleasant and helpful, and I did eventually purchase some pizzas..

A word about the hospitality bus, there is a guy that both marmite and I know well. He sometimes will put on beer and food for us, he is a great cook, and a wonderful man, well liked by all, despite being german.

At one evening I said to him why don't you use your skills and open a restaurant? his reply, never again, been and done that and the business sent me crazy, now the guy works as a part time teacher, now that would drive me around the twist. he cooks really great food and has good social skills, speaks perfect english, now he couldn't make it work, so how would I go?
There can’t be good living where there is not good drinking
