I lived in KK a few years ago. It has a TukCom centre and now has a fairly new Central Plaza shopping centre in addition to the Fairy Plaza, Big C, Tesco Lotus etc.

A bustling city which has grown considerably in the past decade. Large markets operate close to the Police Station and also next to the Makro centre.

There are simply masses of accommodation available to rent. From studio's to large houses. A few days stay there will give you a more clearer picture of the particular type of area in which you wish to reside.

A farang friend of mine rents a 3 bedroomed bungalow, around 3kms from the centre for 6000 baht a month

So you want to live in Khon Kaen?
I lived there for about 9 months. You can find most everything there, that you will find in Bangkok, and unfortunately, also at Bangkok prices. After living there I looked at small cities, that have a city center, and somewhat of a rural life style. It really depends on what you want and if this is a life time move.

I now live in Chaiyaphum, about midway between Khon Kaen and Korat. I can go South or North and go to the ,"Big city", There are many small cities nearby that have a really good quality of life, with good schools, and all the shopping you want. I know of new houses that are being built, for sale, for half the price of what you will pay in Khon kaen. You can rent a nice air condition apt here for less than 3,000 baht per month, within walking distance of anything you need.

You can come to these places by bus easily and stay a couple of night for less than 300 baht per night to look around, which will help you with your decision.
