Can anyone recommend a hotel in Phon Phisai?

I am taking my wife and her Mother up to a village outside of Phon Phisai (outside of Nong Khai) for a couple of days and as much as I would "Enjoy" sleeping on the floor, fighting off bugs all night and trying to use the Thai toilet (Ya, Right), I would rather drive the 10 or 15 kilos back to Phon Phisai if there is a decent room / hotel available in this sleepy little town... I have done several searches of different sites and have come up with "Nothing"....

Please, can anyone up that way help out???

    thank you in adavance...

I believe the owner died a while back so not sure if it's still up and running.

Yes, I think he was a Kiwi. If I remember correctly his name was John and he also did a side line in TV satellite systems.

I just got my email returned as undeliverable so looks like it is shut now.
I knew the place had been up for sale for some time.

I've been there 2 times (2nd time to keep the peace) for the Phom Phisai festival, it's highly over rated and like many Thai festivals is just another excuse for a night market to rip you off. If you do go make sure that you go prior to the day of the fireworks display as the traffic can get chaotic on the day. Make sure to take a car fridge full of cold drinks, beer etc and fold up chairs as you will be sitting in the one spot for hours. There's no entertainment, one would think they could play CD's over a PA, so it's just the good old Thai huddle seeing who can talk the most while the farang in the family sits by himself and eases his boredom with plenty of cold beer. Believe me you haven't seen a crowd until you've been there, it just goes to show how gullible Thais are especially if it's for free.

If you don't find a hotel in Phon Phisai, I can recommend Kongkhamkoon Hotel in Pak Khat (45 km. east of PP). It is on the shore of Mekong in the center of town. I like the riverview and atmosphere, 500-900 Baht. Phone: Pooky +66 (0)897128598.
