New Pub in Korat

Yes, indeed, another new pub has opened in Korat. This one is called the "Aussie Pub" and is owned by a young woman from Udon who moved to Korat to escape an abusive farang spouse....

The bar is located across from The Mall just east of the pedestrian bridge. It has a proper bar with a pool table and some dining tables. Decent sound system. Small TV.

Heineken on tap. Plenty of other local beers and the usual spirits. Nothing out of the ordinary.

The food menu has lots of Thai offerings and plenty of Western food including "all day" breakfast, burgers, steaks, sandwiches and more.

I had a cheeseburger and fries for 100 baht. The burger was not huge, but tasted just fine.

The location is OK except for parking. I suppose you could leave your car at The Mall and walk over the bridge or do as I did and take the bus.

a couple of years back an aussie pub in Kanchanaburi was the only pub in town that showed the aussie footy, bloody beawdy

then a new owner, so what does he do? cancels it and puts on the UK football, in competition with a million others in town

I believe that's the purpose of the small TV. But, I didn't see any UBC tuner, so I have no idea what they show. However, there is another new pub in Korat ("Sport and Cocktail Bar") that seems to show every sporting event available.

I mean think about it...if you got stiched-up by a Thai girl in Thailand, would you move back to your homeland and set up a business designed to attract Thais...unlikely I would suggest...but this bird gets shafted and abused in Oz and comes back to Thailand to set up a bar targeting who?...australians of course...idiot woman...

of course taking an ex's money is not something limited to Thai girls...I have two ex wifes living very nicely in NZ...thank you KM...

She and hubby had lived in Udon for the past six years and ran three bars there, including one called "Down Under", which is still operating.

She got tired of his drunken abuse and philandering and left him there in Udon. He still has the bar. He has the kid. He still has the other assets.

She brought one car to Korat which she sold in order to open the bar. Three of her Udon employees followed her to Korat to work in her new bar.

But, that's just her story. One of a zillion in Isaan and, as Klongmaster points out, all around the world.

Thats not the story thats in Udon, the Ozzie guy, (J) I have met and the impression is that he seems a very decent bloke, he has a established reputation in Udon for being the same, he certainly doesn't have a history as either being a pisshead or violent that anyone knows of.

I encounted a similar story yesterday here in OZ, A Thai female, after enquiring about the ethnic origins of my kids, gave me her story.
She came to Oz with a guy who abused her etc, left him and found another who treats her well, with the added comment

Actually, I'd be interested to hear the other side of this story as a lot of what she said just doesn't ring true; especially the part about her giving up her three year old daughter....

Seriously, though - I normally avoid any place that has the name of a country in it. Doesn't matter if it is "Aussie bar", "Swedish restaurant" or "Dieter's German bed & breakfast".

With two exceptions: Tokyo Joe's in Suk Soi 24, and a couple of Irish pubs.....
