    Thunderbum here

Just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself

I retired to Thailand around eight months ago after working all my adult years as an electrician, my wife passed away some years ago , so after taking numerous holidays to Thailand and slowly becoming discontented with the way England is going I sold my property and relocated to Pattaya.

My move to Thailand has been generally uneventful but its still a daily challenge compared to my past holiday visits , There are many things that make me shake my head in disbelief and I now use the phrase WTF far more than I did back home . I'm hoping to try and pick up some advice , information and tips from other retired people here .

    Regards – Bill

    Welcome Thunderbum.

Per chance, would that be Bill Fluke?

    Hiya Bill,

The one bit of advice I would give is to be VERY careful investing and money with expats here in Thailand. There are quite a few shonky dealers who come here and re-invent themselves as property or investment experts, and then your money just disappears. Some really do appear to be decent. So due your due diligence, or better still, don't invest with them at all.

What I'm saying is that many have later been found to be ripoff merchants. Ones that had displayed themselves as having all the right credentials...

Andrew Drummond's website exposed a few.

Find something useful to keep you occupied, but try to avoid breaking the law. I dabble with photography when I’m bored. The digital stuff is easy these days.
Keep yourself in good shape physically so that you will be able to claim and enjoy your state pension benefits.

Welcome through the inner teak halls, retired Bill.
    Hoping you have enjoyable moments.

Outta curiosity, being a new comer, how did you learn of Teakdoor?

Welcome TB hope you enjoy your stay in Patts. Quite a few down there. Sabang and Seekingasylum come to mind. If you do not currently have a thai lady friend remember having one is like playing hopscotch in a minefield. Think you will find a few threads on that subject on TD

Thanks for the advice . I have worked hard all my life and any spending is some thing that I have to watch very carefully , I do have my UK government pension that helps but as for investing in any properties in Thailand , thats not going to happen . At my age and being alone buying bricks and mortar just don't make sense . As for any investments the only thing that I have done is put some money in a Thai bank for my retirement visa extension requirement and that’s as far as it will ever go .

I came across Teak Door while searching the Internet for some information on connecting to the Internet from my room using my Android tablet and AIS sim card ( Computer News ).

    Thanks for the welcome .

You don't need to get "married". You can hire both a housekeeper and a sex partner, separately. As has been said you'll likely be cheated more by an expat than you will by a Thai. in Pattaya. But still be wary of overly helpful Thais.

    Don't be in a rush.

Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

Getting married again , I would rather have all my remaining teeth pulled out , house keeper the thought of some one rummaging through my draws and cupboards while I'm not there , I could not live with . Even the sex thing is some times over powered with thoughts of a nice well done steak meal and a bottle of nice red wine . As for overly helpful Thais , that's a good point worth remembering .
