American looking to live in Thailand for 2 years at least

    Hi,

After working in the US all my life and enjoying short holidays in Thailand I've decided to live in Thailand for 2 years to enjoy more of my limited time on this planet.

I'm 36 and have always worked so I think this will be a good thing for me to do.

I have saved funds to do this and live a simple lifestyle.

I have considered doing the CELTA in Bangkok if I decide to work and earn some income.

I know that teaching English is not considered lucrative or even financially worth it, but it could be a new thing for me to do. Better than the suburbs anyhow.

Look forward to interacting with you all.

The only good reason to do a CELTA is to get the 1 year non imm B visa.
Bangkok is an urban toilet who's inhabitants only live to work.

Rent an apartment with a nice pool in Pattaya or Hua Hin to use as a base and enjoy. party, travel, party, travel.... rinse and repeat... After a year you would either have got Thailand out of your system and moved on with your life, or gone tropo, got a native pregnant and bought a pig farm.

    Enjoy.!
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

If you're doing nothing for 2 years in Thailand then you may as well spend 30 days doing a CELTA; qualifications are always worthwhile. Maybe you could do that in Phuket or Chiang Mai? A bit more interesting than Bkk.

As Neo says, move around every 3 months, or so, see different places.

There is some truth here but it is : Never have sex more that 3 times with the same girl. Move around and see different ones.

If you fail to observe the rule of 3 you will end up with a pig farm.

If you want to party go with girls from Isaan. If you are looking for a wife pick one from Chiang Mai. (yes a generalization but not a bad paradigm)
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

    Thanks for the info.

I only like Bangkok for a week and then I need to move on.

I plan to live in Hua Hin or other places. I'm still researching that and I can go and see different places on the ground.

Pattaya can be fun but people tend to decay there....

    Uhm....OK.....

If you fail to observe the rule of 3 you will end up with a pig farm.
Isaan with pig farm? I'll pass.

Perhaps marriage in the future. I'd have to get my Thai listening skills to at least intermediate though.

Their bank accounts decay quicker in many cases. Be careful...(and wear sunscreen at the beach).

I did say it was a general comment and it is not originally mine i heard/read it somewhere else.

It was explained as: Chiang Mai girls/women are more Chinese that their Isaan counterparts and as such may have a different work ethic.

You're 36 so best ignore most pensioners on here! One thing I discovered when I came here is most old fogies were pissed off and disgruntled that they either ended up supporting a bargirl and her dying family, or they'd wished they come to Thailand sooner.

Hang around with the wrong people and you'll get dragged down.

Stuff the negativitey, cos it'll come your way i'm sure.

It is good that you have saved funds Arrowman. You don't want to teach English here. If you have never spent time in a Thai classroom, you can't imagine what you would be getting into.

I will not be playing the "give you money" game. It's a downward spiral.
