    yet another newbie post

    Hi all
Looks like convention for us "newbies" to post a trial message here.
As a rule follower (when it suits me) let me do so.

Hello from darkest Africa, or so some of you might think.

Now let me go look for other places to pass comments

    firstly Hi.
I have been bitten be jasmine fever
I met someone online in other sites and eventually went over there to visit her. Not a bargirl, someone in my age group (near 50). We clicked.
So the plan is to retire there. Leave the money here earning reasonable interest and spend it there with low inflation.
Still a few years to go for that ---- unless the Lotto hits

Nice. I lived in Thailand for six years in the '90's, but then retired in the Philippines in 2000. Still have a lot of friends in Thailand and get over there now and again.

PI was considered, have some good online friends there, but no-one was prepared to go to the next level.
At least the visa story there is easier, just 20K USD and you have a renewable 1 year visa. Thailand does seems to make it awkward for the retiree's.

A renewable visa here doesn't cost even a fraction of 20K. Visas are easy.

I'm a permanent resident. Lifetime visa. Costs me about $10 every three years to renew my card. Initial visa cost me time and paperwork, but almost $0.

thought you had to invest/bank 20K USD in PI, then the actual visa is not expensive

Nope. A lot of easier ways, with no need to bank anything.

I think you have to bank a bunch of $$$$ for a retirement visa, which is why I never even considered that option. My wife is a dual US/Flip cit, so that opens up a lot of options.

I was here for 12 years before applying for permanent resident status, and never deposited a penny. I just had to exit/reenter once a year, accompanied by wife. When even the once a year deal started irritating me, I went for permanent residency. Now, come and go as I please....or don't go if I please.
