    New Ranger

If your waiting for the new Ford Ranger ..maybe the 4x4..Just went to Trang to renew my insurance on my old Mazda and popped into Ford down the road to buy a new passenger window switch..
Chatted with manager in perfect English ( his not mine)...tells me cannot order till Jan if 4x4 3.2l....can only order 2x4 2.5l at present.....got his card and he says will phone me when I can order. Would not take a deposit!!
Seemed to think I could order Aussie export model ( hmm we shall see)..
..best experience I have had with any dealer here...he was so happy that he could maybe be the first dealer in the south to to sell one..
Think a few guys from that other forum have ordered 4x4s with deposit ??? hmmm wonder what/when they wil get....

Seems a real expert seeing as it's a 2.2L now.

^Just about to say the same thing as i saw at bitec. A car that size on 2.2. or 2.5 turbo dependent doesn't do it for me.

There's very little between them and the outgoing 3.0L. The outgoing Ford 2.5 pisses on most of the competition, including the 3.0L versions. The 2.2 is even better supposedly.

I am not 100% but I think the 2.2 is the same lump they where using in the Freelander 2 when Ford had Landrover. I have not heard any bad reports on that vehicle and it isn't what you would call a small car either

I have a Ranger 2.5 at the moment and like you say it will move a bit, it seems to surprise a few people at the traffic lights anyway and there is not much that passes me on the motorway if I am rushing, good engine good gear box if the new one is even half as good as the hype it will be awesome

The new Ford Ranger (for Australia) which will be released very shortly, will be made in Thailand, so I assume that the same vehicle will be available in Thailand.
The engines that will be available are the 3.2 litre and 2.2 litre turbodiesels as well as a 2.5 litre petrol engine. the diesels will replace the current 3.0 litre and 2.5 litre diesels.
Power for the new engines will be 147 kw for the 3.2 litre diesel (an increase of 32 kw over the 3.0 litre) and 110 kw for the 2.2 litre (an increase of 5 kw over the 2.5 litre, however torque goes up from 330 Nm to 375 Nm)
The petrol engine will only be available in the 2WD.
    Hope this helps.

Thanks ...Yup lots of info on the Aussie site ..little except hype on Thai site at present...just have to wait and see what pans out...

My Y2K 2 door Mazda/Ford Fighter is 2.5l ( naturally aspirated) and is certainly very quick off the mark compared to many newer Toyotas etc.. maybe my lead foot or just power to weight may be the reason ..seems lots gutsier than a friend's 4 door Fighter..
For the pedantic nit pickers ..engine size of new 2x4 was my mistake!

The new Ranger was tested in Oz and found to be "a game changer" if the game hadn't been changed by the VW Amorok already. Far ahead of the pack (except the VW which we don't get to see here anyway).

I think I see where they come form. The interior and dashboard of new generation of pick ups (Ford/Mazda and Isuzu/Chevrolet) is such a big move ahead. Not like a commercial van form the late 80's (like my 9 month old Navara), but better than even local compact cars like City and Altis.
But I guess we wouldn't have seen that without the "car like cabin" on the VW. Even thought it's not coming to LOS, it competes with all the local produced pick ups on foreign markets. So they had to improve their game a bit.
The drivetrains seem a big improvement too, finally catching up with the civilized world. (The clear exception being North America, but that's worth a debate itself.)
The 2.2l option was a first on the VW - now Ford pulls even. Considering the sheer numbers on paper seems to be quite a good option. Let's hope the Ford unit holds what it promises, as I'm quite disappointed with the 2.5 on my Nissan.
Here, being a comparably small capacity engine, the torque comes in late (The turbo gets going from about 2.000 rpm) and the usable rpm range is quite limited towards the top as well.
But I wander of, lets stick with the Ford...

Just got a note on FB from Ford Australia to say that the 2012 Ranger is delayed due to floods in BKK . Guess parts are the issue as factory is unaffected Rayong.
    .No date available yet.
    .in case your interested.
    .no brainer really I suppose...

"The new Thai-built Ford Ranger pick-up just recorded the highest ever scores for a pick-up in the Euro NCAP safety ratings and the score of 89 percent even puts it right up amongst the safest sedans.

For adult occupant protection, the new Ranger scored 96 percent, putting it alongside the Mercedes-Benz M Class luxury SUV. Even the pedestrian safety rating at 81 percent is one of the highest ever recorded."

I'm waiting for the New Everest if there is going to be one. I might consider the Ranger if they release the 3.2 version otherwise.

New Everest is atleast 12 months away, possibly 18.

The 3.2 will be available in the Rangers here, the current delays due to the flooding will push back the planned january release of the 3.2 for a few months I would expect.

Only a little bit higher than the outgoing model, but with a much, much higher spec.

I think we had better wait until it actually arrives, I am reading to many different specs I don't know what to believe.
The 2.2 Tdci is made in 3 power specs, which one do we get in Thailand.
The 2.4 Petrol doesn't get the 6 speed gearbox.
    Heated seats in Thailand ?

I'm sure Somchai will reverse the circuit to make chilled seats, so no worries.

I actually meant higher spec with regard to all the gadgets. The current Ranger, while being the best built and having the best engines is a bit lacking in extras (such as machine guns and ejector seats).
