^ Not much, just noticed that the Ford Thailand website has changed to include the New Focus, so presumed they should be having models in the showroom anytime soon. For me, they're a bit too similar in size to the City to pay 200k or 300k more, but if a 1.6 diesel comes out next year, and I haven't changed to the Ranger, then it would be a good car; better than the City in every way, good safety levels and not too much more; the extra money you spend to buy it would be saved in fuel within 3 years or so (depending on your mileage).

I'd be interested in looking at one. I want to change the car really; the City is not great in a crash! I waited for the new Civic, but it's not very good, imo; the New Ranger is good, I'd like a Wildtrak, but haven't even been able to order one, so I'll wait and see if anything else pops up. Also, the missus would probably be happier in a smaller vehicle like a Focus, but that's not the be all and end all...

^ You're nuts BB! To save 300k baht in fuel over 3 years you'd need to drive over 100k kms a year.

I seem to recall you mention you don't drive around that much.

And as far as crashing the car goes; don't!

If you really want a safer car shop around for a nice used Volvo 740, and they about the same mileage as the new pickup trucks.

^ One area I don't like about the City is the lack of side impact bars and general crash protection; a tuktuk could probably kill me if it hit me right - that was a major motivation towards the Ranger in the first place.

The Honda City was 650k. I reckon the 1.6D Focus will be about 850k - that's 200k. I reckon I'll save about 3k per month; 200/3/12 = 6, only 6 years to get me money back then...

The Ford Focus 2.0 Diesel is a really good car, but at 1.1 million, it's just not worth the money - you can get better for not much more. But, for 800k, the Ranger Hi-rider does seem to be just about the best value out there. If the Focus 1.6D is a good price then it really should become a top seller... Ford are jumping all over the likes of Honda in 2012/2013...

^ I'll probably pick up a new 2.2 Wildtrak a few days before you get your deposit back on the 3.2...

I'll take that bet- you'll be driving your City until rust is the only thing holding it together.

And realistically how much extra urban driving will happen here in Thailand, better to base projected fuel consumption savings on the worse figure I reckon which is just shy of 7lt/100km.

Highly possible, but I'm an impulse buyer - I've already tried at 2 dealers (a few months back) but they wouldn't take my order! I may try again when I start seeing the nice ORANGE 2.2 wildtraks being driven locally...

What's that in proper money? Less than 15kpl? I very much doubt that, my City is doing 14.5kpl on a mixed city/motorway schedule - The Focus should be closer to double that.

28kpl or so - I have no actual knowledge (of anything???), but this sounds much more like what I'd expect. I mean the 2.2D Ranger comes out of the tests at 15kpl, the Focus must do a lot better than that!

^ yep, & everyone who bought a car 1 day before or more lost 100k on their second hand value... Helps nobody except the car companies and their corrupt government 'friends'...

^ one of the reasons I got the Honda City was the high resale value. The Honda City is exactly the kind of cheap City car that comes under the umbrella of the 100k back 'idea'; so, I was not best pleased when I was offered far less than I expected when I thought about selling/trading-in my 18 month old vehicle - everyone offered exactly 100k less than I expected... Now, they were obviously trying it on, but the fact remains that a new 650k Honda City with 100k back is worth, to many, 550k, hence the resale value dropping overnight - why should somebody pay 550k (the prelegislation value) for an 18 month old car when they can buy a new one for that money... Thus, I was offered 450-470k.

The government just wanted to sell more cars. If they wanted to help families in certain social classes they can do a far better job than offering taxpayers money to car companies (with a cut for themselves)...

Popped into a new Ford dealer that's just opened on Kalapapruke Rd, off Phetkaseam road to ask about the ranger 3.2. They are saying new orders next year with no promise off a specific month. If you know where 'There Circle is it's in the direction of Siam University.

Looked at the brochure for the Focus as my wife is now considering the diesel focus, but upon browsing, it appears the diesel is no longer available. Is this true?

^ I got told that they are coming to Thailand next year, in 1.6 form, I presume the 2.0D too, but I didn't ask about that because I reckon a Prius Hybrid is a better option for my purposes at a similar price.

So can we put the 100K on pick-ups? If so, I'm ordering one of those 2.2 orange WT's with a deposit and keep it on back order. That's what my Mrs. wants to do on a Mazda 2 'Elegance', as a second car coz she's too pissweak to drive the truck. Apparently you just need to put down a deposit / approve finance this year. I'd rather be a 1 car / 1 motosi family, keepin it green and all ya know.
