UK citizen in BKK options for letter needed for driving license

    https://teakdoor.com/motoring-in-thai...ow-to-get.html
    * A letter from your Consulate/Embassy or Thai immigration office certifying your address, or if you are on a yearly visa then just your 90 day reporting slip.

So I am guessing this counts as a standard letter for the UK embassy - 2300 Baht.

Just wonder if immigration offer something better value and where in BKK. My preference is anywhere walkable from BTS or MRT if there are options. Anyone know?

    Had more questions posted here

Also will they accept an IDP with only few days before it expires? My UK photocard now has 10 years but the IDP is dead next week.

The UK embassy/consulate letter is a rip off.
Go to immigration and you can get a letter for about 300 baht if you don't have a 90 day report slip yet

If you're on a non-imm visa you can get what you need at immigration.

The process of getting a DL is very easy.

Go to Building 4 in the Dept of Transport next to Mochit BTS.

Only if you report every 90 days will you receive a proof of address letter from Immigration. Non-Immigrant visa holders that do not report are not eligible for the letter.

A letter from your Embassy or a valid Work Permit are also acceptable. Indeed, some Land Transport offices will only accept either a Work Permit or letter from your Embassy.

You must go to the Land Transport Office that corresponds to the address on your proof of address letter. There are three in Bangkok including the one in Morchit and the one past On Nut in Sukhumvit.

Yes but the UK photocard should be sufficient.

This letter must also not be older than 6 months old.

Mine was nearly 2 years old when I did mine, they look at your name, passport number, and that's it.

They also should have sent me to another LTO it seems.

Just as people need proof of funds for 10,000b when arriving on a Visa Exemption, and 20,000b when arriving on a Tourist Visa/Non-imm. These rules aren't enforced.

Yeah I have a nagging doubt about that being right.

I do have the Hull non-O with 90 day runs so it's a question whether they will give me a letter or not. Suspect there is no one answer depends on the officer and what day.

Of course Brit embassy is easy but it pains me to pay 2300 bt for a sodding letter where they verify that I told them something.

Does most of that go to the agency they "gave" the admin contract to as well?

On TV there is the suggestion to print a form and ask the local cop shop to sign it. No idea if that would happen in BKK but less of a pain-investment than schlepping out to Chaeng Wattana just to be told no-can-do.

When Immy was still at Suan Plu I went and was refused on a Non-B doing 90 day runs.

I agree and I asked for two copies which is the same price and they only sent one.
