    What car to buy ?

I'm looking to change my car, which is presantly a 4door 4wd Isuzu so come on give me some ideas. Got to be less than a mill. The current short list is

    Vtec Honda Jazz:-
Pro's- cheap to buy, cheap on fuel, 115 bhp so being a little car it should have some go and as it's a hatchback it's pretty versitile.
Con's- A bit small, I've heard rumore that they might be bringing out a new model soon so could hit depreciation, posibly a little dated now, lack of ground clearence, some big holes in the roads here sometimes

    1.8 honda civic(new model):-
Pro's-I like the look of it, 140+bhp, lots of toys, roomy, pretty good on fuel, the wife want's one, comfertable
Con's-Expensive, ground clearence same as jazz, not that versitile, the wife wants one.

    Toyota Vigo 4door 2wd
Pro's- versitile can basicly do anything, roomy, good resale, 160 odd bhp, makes it drive like a car, a bit light on the back end for good cornering, sturdy with good ground clearence even with the 2wd version
Con's- Its still a pick-up trying to be a car, a bit bulky in town, everyones got one, not that cheap

Nissan Triton, more of less the same as the vigo but with a bit more power and a bit uglier.

Now if this was to be my only car I'd go for one of the 4door pick-ups no contest, but I've got a pick-up for the farm and my brother-in-law has a nearly new vigo, so anything involving carrying "stuff" is pretty much taken care of. We do a lot of milage, my Isuzzu at the moment is terrible on fuel (the vigo uses about 30% less) so keeping fuel cost down is a big help.

On less practical matters I tend to drive pretty fast and like a car with a bit of ooomph, although I am happy with my penis size so there no need to suggest and red psudo sports type cars so any sugestions ?

    RC
I have more than the average number of arm and legs

    Get a pickup.

The Toyota doesn't have 160BHP - It is around 102BHP.

The Triton is a Mitsubishi and is crap.

If there is a Ford or Mazda (same truck) dealer near you, get one of them or one of the more powerful Nissans.

The Ford is the best by a mile.

I have a new civic, its a great car but I'm starting to think that Thailands roads are not suited to new saloon cars. especially if your out in the sticks.
I reckon I will get a vigo or a fortuner next.

I can see why you are asking opinion on here but i think you realise that your missus has already made the decision

The 3 L diesl toyota is 160 odd, your probaly thinking of the 2.5. Yea the triton is a mitsu.

I've driven the ford and it's pretty crap compared with the others, ans I also have a nissan fronterer (sp) which is on a par with the ford. The most powerful pick-up at the moment is the Triton followed by the Vigo (on of the nissans might be up there as well) The Chevys are the same as the isuzus with a different body, justr take your pick on which one you prefer, Isuzu mught have a bit better re-sale. The Vigo is by far the best I've driven yet.

I've had a salon here before and it coped suprisingly well, like i said I've got a pick-up as well, and my brother-in-laws is usually parked on the drive, just not sure if another one would be worth it, mabye go for a bit of comfort for the longer runs. Your probably right about the desision.

RC you are reading too much into the horse power ratings.

Torque is the important figure for performance
    Compare the torque figures

Nah I'm not mate, just using them for easy comparisen figures, I cant remember the torque rateing ect and anyway it' just not the straight torque output, you've got to look at the rpm, how flat the curve is ect...bhp is just easier

Looks like the Jazz might be out, just chatting to the MiL she recons someone told her the Jazz "has a problem"...she can't remember who told her or what the problem is but it has one!!...just been taking the piss out of her for the last 5 min for that ..... the "problem" is obviously a civic would look a lot better parked in the drive than a Jazz. She fervently denies this but was laughing while dening it

I never looked at the 3.0l models.

The Ford was the best I drove. Best build quality too. The Triton was the worst.

The Isuzu was overpriced and I didn't bother with the Chevy as it is just too Seppo for my tastes (yes, I know Ford is too, kind of).

Ignore MrsQ when it comes to 4 wheels.

I think my Vigo has about 160HP, intercooled Turbo. I am very happy with it, it travels along quite easily at 160KPH even with a load up. Granted its still a pickup but certainly more refined than the pre 2005 series of pickups. Maybe the Ford / Mazda is the best, but Jesus what a plain Jane, I'm not much of a fashion slave but I like it to look like it ws designed within this century. Mines a 2 door and 2 wheel but quite good spec and it was about 600K 9 months ago, thats cheap!

I think there will be a facelift vigo out soon, just like the isuzu thats now out. Hopefully there will be some better colour choices, it is pretty lame at the moment. I ended up with a black one which looks the best but you can see that it is dirty just by driving to the top of the soi. Luckily I enjoy washing it.

I really like it though, they are great cars and you can drive all day and not feel like you have been working your bollocks off.

    Fuck off.

You could always buy an old Land rover Defender with a modern Jap diesel engine in it.

    Fords are crap.]
    GM's are crap

If you are gonna buy something buy Japanese.

Don't for gods sake buy a Discovery petrol just because you see one cheap.

i'm happy with my two motors. a ford ranger rear access 4wd and a mazda3 manual sedan.
the mazda is a great car. the finish, excellent. and it has enough zip to keep me happy.670kbaht. had it for a year now, and apart from hitting a dog on the super highway(ouch!!) never had a problem. i'm up in the sticks as well, and the m3 has no probs with the roads.
the ford is great. but thirsty. my calculation on fuel econ. 3.5 baht a kilometre. but, have friends with all the other brands, and it seems to be about the same. m3. about 1.5 baht a km, unless i am travelling a long way. at 150-160km/h it gets thirsty too.

Ah someone else who works the fuel economy out the same as me 3.5 sound high a bit more than my Isuzu (about 3 bhat/km) my BiL's Vigo on the same run gets about 2 bhat/km. Just been looking at the mazda 3 website that seem a bit more than the civic butI'll go and have a look.

Mrs Q fuck off this is'nt about motorbikes, you've got a thread for that
