I plan to be buying in LoS - I'm only buying one because it promises to 'Jazz Up My Life'.....Goodness knows it needs it.....
Will you show your face on your return, or remain elusive?
And when is your return?
I just drove from Phuket to BKK in a I-DSL Jazz. Impressive little car, plenty fast and it is really surprisingly very roomy inside. (took 10 hours)
Price is cheap and it runs on 91. (unlike my BMW!)
I think I'd buy one if I was in the market for a car.
All being well a flying visit in a couple of week's time and hopefully over for a long stint in December....It would be nice to meet up with a few of the good people here, not sure I could handle a full-blown TD soiree, but a couple of one-on-one meetings, maybe in the park feeding the ducks, would be nice.
Good thread this - I think the Jazz has won out over the Soluna.
Back off Margaret, you're on a sugar rush!
Well, don't be shy.Originally Posted by danbo

Can you get one for under a million ?Originally Posted by Fingers_in_pies

Fortuners are nice, was thinking about one of them before. Driving is the same as the Vigo but with a better ride in the back due to the coil springs. I would'nt buy a petrol, I think the 3L diesil has the same power, with better fuel economy. They were a bit over budget for me and I dont really think they are worth the someting like 300,000 more than a 4wd, 4door Vigo, if you want an enclosed back on one just put a carry boy for about 50,000. They do seat 7 in comfert but you give up loads of laugage space, if you have a large family or are really concerned about the comfert of your passengers then they are great.
I have'nt driven the standed engine Jazz, but as I said I though the vtec one was a cracking little car, can't go wrong with one IMO, I was looking to buy the 1.5 V Vtec manual at 595,000 is great value.
I have more than the average number of arm and legs
Why not the 7 speed/CVT ?Originally Posted by RandomChances
I have toyed with the car idea for a while, can't really justify the expense.
I probably really need one about 8 times a year and rent one when I do.
8,000 beats 595,000.
Not really much fun to drive in the city either, nowhere to park up here.
Having said that, if i was better off, i would probably get a pick up, something like a Toyota vigo.
I just don't like auto's, prefer a manual....and it's cheaper . Got to admit the box in the jazz is the best I've come across, if I was living in BKK I'd probably go for the auto.Originally Posted by Marmite the Dog

CMN yea I see your point not sure if I'd bother if I was living in BKK, just use public transport, but when yous nearest supermarket is 70 km away it does change things somewhat
I prefer a manual transmission too. But the new tech automatics are more efficient than the old slushboxes.
The trany of choice in the big trucks now is an Allison automatic.
Electronics and automatics have come a long way.
Yea they have, if I was going to have an auto I would want at least a 4 speed with manual change. The maxda 3 had a nice box, not paddle change but just a normal gear stick with a push up/down change. An auto box on a truck would be great, we used to have a Hino 6 wheeler and I drove that ok, my BiL has one of the really old Isuzus you see a lot of here....nightmare to drive and change gearOriginally Posted by Mr Earl
Those old Isuzus with the big "rivets" are wild! I love seeing them. And they are slow and easy to pass.
Most of them must be going on 30 years old now.
I like the Fortunas as passenger SUVs, although the local mafia seem to favour them, but agree they're not worth the extra money over a dual cab Hilux with canopy.
The girls and limp wristed boys seem to like the Honda Jazz, while real men go for the Vios
The new Civics look great, but that auto sounds very ordinary.
I have a little Vios manual, which is as bland and boring as batshit (its even chuck gold) but super reliable and cheap to run. If you flog it it goes OK too. The sound system I had fitted is good too. For a cheap runabout its excellent. Dealer servicing under warranty is cheap too. We've bashed the spoiler on dirt roads and flogged it up the mountain to Sankhlaburi a few times and it just comes back for more.
But I miss my Land Rover Disco which is stored in Aus. Thailand's import duties make it not worth it to bring it over.
Can I add a question to this thread?
A friend wants to spend 150,000-200,000 baht on a cheap runabout. What do you recommend? What traps to avoid?
In normal auto mode, the 2 liter civic does the same, it alsways seems to be in the wrong gear and when you want to get on with things it's changing for no reason. - total crap.
The paddle shift is fantastic, it only changes up when you click it but it will change down to first gear automatically if you are too lazy to change down thru the gears when braking to a stop.
Also there is auto sport mode that behaves nicely and it knows when to change and what gear to be in. It only changes up at about 6,000 rpm so you can scare the knickers off your missus.
Well got the car here's a pic
Had it about a week now and recently did our first longish trip, well impresed by the performance and economy, on a about 450 round trip it used something like 800 bhat less in fuel than the old Isuzu and we were driving at higher speed's as well. It will cruise comfertably at 160, feeling much the same as the Isuzu did at 120, and I managed to hit 200 before I ran out of road on one good straight (well it's new, you got to try these things)
I've got a feeling it may be something to do with the engine, I've noticed ours being a Vtec is very high reving (red lines at 7000rpm) and I think they have a very narrow powerband, this could be the cause of the auto gearbox changing so much. Mines manual so you dont get that problem. One thing is you dont get much low end grunt out of it, for decent performance you need to keep the rev's up.Originally Posted by OC
Probaly go for an older Jap something, personaly if I was going for a cheap runabout, I'd go the whole hogg and get something like a peougot 205/305 for around 50,000 bhat. 150-200,000 is sort of an in between priceOriginally Posted by Bruce
Is that why the Thai's like to concrete their man hole covers in. Just to be sure that if an F1 race does happen then they won't lift off? This is the reason why engineers must weld manholes down on the streets before an F1 race.
Rc, Black looks nice, so Hi-So.
Feeling a bit left out so here's a pic of my baby....
Bitch to keep clean...but thats not my job ....nice wheels BTW, we were going to get some but sort of run out of fundingOriginally Posted by Old Codger
