| Motoring in Thailand and Asia Cars and motorbikes in Thailand and Asia, Where to buy and sell your truck? Where to get fixed and what garage to use. Should I buy a suzuki carry? Will it have a car DVD? Will my travel insurance cover me for driving in Thailand? Or should I just buy a Mercedes or a Honda CRV? Everything to do with motoring and vehicles goes in this section. Do I really need a driving licence in Thailand to drive to Bangkok car hire? |

| car insurance i bought a new toyota camry three years ago. first year insurance was free. second year i went with aia .paid about 25000 baht. during this second year some bother in law of hers borrowed my car whilst i was in u.k. and run it into a storm ditch just outside korat. it rolled over and was a right mess.i thought they would write it off but they repaired it. they actually made a bloody good job with it. i was well impressed. but because aia had to pay out a lot of money[i believe about 800,000 baht] the buggers wouldnt insure me again. so last november i ended up going to viriyah and had to pay 35,000 baht. i didnt want go with these people because i found them even more offhand and ignorant than aia. but time was running out. now my insurance is up for renewal and i want to try a differant company. can anyone recommend agood insurance company with a office in korat area. cheers. |

| I have Thannachart Insurance and think they are great. When I had an accident in Pattaya (knocked a Pattaya Police Officer off his motorcycle) they were there within 15 minutes. My car was fixed with no deductable. My rate only went up 3000 Baht the next year. Incidentially, for all those who think this would be a horror story, it was not. The police supervisor came out and wanted to know if I had been drinking, when it was obvious I had not been, they were more downright polite and extremely decent about the whole thing. | Thailand Forum | SCB (Bank) does car insurance which includes 24 hour roadside assistance...I bought a new car last year and got a years free insurance with it...viriyah covered it and when I asked them for the rate this year it was 12000 more than last year and no claims. When asked why, they said last year was a special deal with Isuzu so guess what...change the company...idiots really...
