Yamaha Bike Review - R1, Fazer

Anyone bought or ridden the new Yamaha Sports Bike A bunch of 'em have been released for sale in Thailand, specifically the R1, Fazer and the big touring one.

Thinking of getting one when I'm next in LOS but wondered if any of you have the low-down on them.

    Cheers.

They're nice looking machines that's for sure. Had a brief look at the R1's and R6's at the Yamaha dealer here in CM. Quite expensive - around the 600,000k mark for the R1 if I recall correctly - but of course you're getting a brand new and legitimate bike for your money.

The FJR1200. or is it 1300 now

    Big bemoth of a beast.

Has an automatic clutch as an option. Not sure how that would feel to ride.

Why have this? When you get moving no need to use clutch when changing up gears. Only need it to engage 1st gear and for downshifts.

R1 good looking bike, can be used for touring. Regarded as the comfy bike out of the big Jap 4. Wireless throttle causes some snatchy throttle response, apparently.
Fazer uses a detuned R1 engine. Probably the better bike to have for Thai roads.
FJR no comment. Need to ask someone older than 40.

I'm a big Fazer fan, has enough poke for an ol cvnt like me and you can ride it all day due to its good riding position, which is more than I can do on my R1.
The FJ has its devotees but too much of a big heavy lump for me, wouldn't say no to a free one tho.

Shameless plug for a freebie bike.

Had a Fazer 1000 in the UK.
We used to have regular runs to Devils Bridge in Yorkshire with my mates on R 1 ducatis, suzukis etc. Used to get a huge kick out of just sitting upright and seeing them hanging off going round the same bends at the same speeds.
An excellent bike for any mature rider( sounds better than old fart)
Handles like a dream and can go like stink

Lets face it the majority of modern sports bike riders have machinery that really outclasses their riding abilities.

Hmm, the new R1 was quoted at 720k at Yamaha big bike dealership in Bangkok when they opened earlier this year. 600k for a new with reg sounds "cheap".

Fazers work well in this climate, they run all day with out breaking your back but do chew up med. compound rears in a very short time if you do too many daytime km's

Bonus is that upcountry Yamaha dealers do sell em' on order so your not stuck with something exotic which there is no interest, after sales service or resonable turnaround time on spare parts - not that I have anything other than chains, sprockets and brake pads that needed replacing.
The most enjoyable bike I have ever had with our feeting like a dog rooting a basket ball.

^^ Sorry travelmate... too much red wine last night!!!!!

... without looking like a dog rooting a basket ball...

The new R6's look fantastic but are best for those who are 160cm or less in height.

I wouldn't place too much emphasis on spares support, I rang them for a Relay that is common to both R1 & Fazer, the relay is Common across all years and one of the few parts that needs replacement.
They didn't have one, I asked if they could get one? and rang them back the next day they said the could at a cost of 4500 Baht.
I rang and brought the genuine part in Singapore at a cost of 850 Bt. Thieving cvnts.
