| Quote: The torque figures don't lie. 343Nm as stock is a massive number. When you drive a powerful turbo diesel you'll soon realise where the power bands are and how torque really does affect a vehicle's performance especially vis a vis highway driving.

I said, and I'll repeat for the stupid people here, "I said it was quicker than a Camry at speed on the motorways because of it's massive torque". Quote:

| Perhaps this article will educate Ant and Travelmate. Hope they bother to read it and actually understand they have been caught completely talking out of their rear ends here. Highlighting is mine. Browsing through a handful of motoring websites the other day, we were interested to see that a reader had asked one of them to explain the relationship between power and torque but had not received any kind of answer. So we thought we'd supply that service instead. It is, after all, a fair question. Everyone knows that cars produce power, and bhp figures are banded about regularly. People with more enthusiasm about the subject are aware of torque, and that it has something to do with performance. On the whole, though, it's only engine builders and tuners who know how the two relate to each other. *snip* These and other factors make it difficult to achieve high power outputs, which in any case are not always desirable for a car used daily in heavy traffic. Perhaps the most remarkable road car engines commonly available today are the latest-generation turbo diesels. 130bhp, which ten years ago was a good figure for a hot hatch, is now by no means exceptional for a diesel, even at an engine speed of as little as 4000rpm. As anyone who has ever driven one of these cars can confirm, their performance is remarkable. What not everyone realises - or, if so, only vaguely - is that it's the torque that makes this performance possible. Power And Torque Explained | Road Tests, Auto Features Please, please read it, you need the education. |

You are the stupid one for not following and comprehending the thread and my argument, instead preferring to try and boast about your Passat TDi. Clown. Don't know what rigger is on about, senility setting in no doubt.

The articles explains all is relative. What it says at the end, the modern diesel is truly remarkable at the power it can achieve nowadays. However sorry to say your Pickup will not beat the Camry. Your diesel has more torque yes, but at a given lesser RPM. Therefore to put it into plain english for you. You have grunt but it runs out of steam fairly quickly. The Camry is able to carry more steam and due to it more appropiate gearing suited for a highway driving will attain a higher speed than your pickup. And I would like to point out, I have raced and driven against these pickups and beat them time after time. Actually it not that difficult. Just keep pedal to floor, wait for pickup to run out of steam usually around the 180km/h mark and the Camry continues to accelerate onward and into the distance. Bye bye Pickup. Case closed.

| WTF is this argument all about, and what does it have to do with the Jazz? A car's top speed will be based on a combination of its bhp, torque, and aerodynamics. The only way to find out is to compare performance figures alone (not the above three figures as there is no way to know which carries most weight) and actually race them. |
