^ don't count on it, the extremely corrupted custom official will want to ask some money, maybe between 50,000 and 100,000 depending on the car,

If it's an expensive sport car, could be more

If they can prove ownership for at least one year and they have been overseas for 2 years, they are allowed to bring back one vehicle DF. Look at the customs website.

Wish I had known that.

Wife lived outside Thailand for 4 years when we sold our Ford Escape after only 13 months. Took a mild beating, and would have paid much more for the same car here.

^^ won't count on that, I tried to do this with a Thai resident who had owned a car for many years, my import agent told me that even with the laws on your side, it was very risky as basically it was at the discretion of the custom officer to let your car go in or not,

He was very honest about it (Thai American) and told me importing a car here, no matter the legal conditions, is a sensitive area

^ yeah for a small car, something with a resale value of less than 500,000

probably more if you take a nice car, no idea how much more, probably seized so they can make money on the side with it

with all the HiSo going abroad for study and buying a Porshe or similar when they get there, why we don't see more of them in Bangkok ?

My Ex imported a Car from Australia when we moved back here in 97, customs had a feeble tryon for some duty but Schenkers who we used to import the stuff, did a good job and we had little problem getting it in Duty Free, not able to sell it for 3 years after importation.
