In fairness to Honda, the inline 4 650cc CBR series is great value.

My first bike in Thailand was a Yamaha Virago 400cc. Absolutely solid bike. Looked like shit though.
460k for the Triumph Street Triple R 675.
That is the best value for money on a bike in Thailand.
sold my phanthom
riding Steed 600 now....nice bike...
I'm up to 121,000 kilometers on a CBR-150 and it still runs great and does not use oil. Damn amazing engineering.
Might be a good time for an oil change there Bob.
Heh Shagger, you do grab the CONCEPT of NOT using oil, don't you?
I ride a Honda 150 RR 2 stroke, it uses oil like a bandit but I can get to 155 kph pretty quick on it and it's fun.
So sad my 900 Kawi isn't running, 0-100kph in 3.2 seconds. Not bad for a bike that came out with that speed 30years ago. Wish I had the money to fix it again.
Straight line MONSTER it is, shit for curves though. 555

Well I get the concept of not leaking oil and not burning oil but still trying to get round the not using oil bit .
I'd love to post up pics of my modified Ctx but ... This is Teakdoor.
No.
they're a cheap, pedestrian, Honda inline four, readily available in Thailand.
Great value in the market here.
If you want a sport's bike, thai Honda isn't the place to go. The CBR1000 is Jap spec (heavily restricted) and not US spec. CBR600 has never been available here (besides gray imports)
I've got a ZX6r in Thailand mate
It's big enough for there
It's in my avatar
Not sure what my next bike is
The second hand market is getting quite good can't make my mind up about a cruiser or adventure bike yet
My stepson has driven bikes in LOS for 3 years around the village.
He has now with us is Oz.
I know nothing about bikes, he is only 16yo - what type of bike and size should I buy him?
^^ Yeah, Kawa actually released the zx10r here in 2009
650k baht. Was a great deal. At the time the R1 was 880k baht.
Then after about a year they withdrew them from their range. A real pity really.
If it's like the UK iceman the government set the sizes for age groups and type of licence
I would just buy second hand though because he will probably want to go bigger when the restrictions on his license expire
Thanks for the feedback guys. He will have to pass a written road rules test and pass a 2 day course for the learner plate. All of the bikes mentioned are learner approved in OZ.
The Kawasaki Ninja 300 ABS special edition is his choice, costs A$6690 new - looks good.
I will buy new as I know nothing about bikes and the warranty will give peace of mind.
Thanks again.
The CBR300 might be a bit safer (slower) for a 16 yr old.
Not as sporty or rev happy as the Ninjette.
^
It's OZ you cannot drive more than 50kmh on most city roads, he will only be using it for going to school 6km per day.
Get him a twist and go. Let him understand the city traffic without too many complications.Originally Posted by Iceman123

Once comfortable and confident with the way it works you can upgrade to a geared bike and higher CC
The Yammy Exciter 150 is probably the sharpest, most agressive looking scooter in Thailand.
I'm sure there's something similar in Oz.
Get him something like this, under the condition that if he hasn't had a spill or a scrape by his 18th birthday, you'll get him a ninja 300 then.
I had an RD 350 (2 stroke high revving loon of a bike )at 17 I still don't know how I am alive today I was a fuckin idiot
A modified Honda Wave 125.
