I have to add this. I am not an expert with big bikes. The only Harley I have ever owned is a Rapido 125cc. After living in Thailand for over a decade I have got use to my Honda Wave or Yamaha.
Had a few beers the other day and decided to fire up my Hog. Going down a sorta safe soi I opened up the throttle in 1st gear. The power was intense.
When I sobered up the next day, I realized how lucky I was.

Generally it's a wise move not to drink prior to riding one's big powerful motorcycle.
But since you survived your first drunken outing, you're probably more aware of how easy it is to die on a motorcycle.
Wait till you survive you first crash. After that you might feel invincible.
Hopefully you'll survive your first one....erm many don't.
I've survived numerous crashes, I'm afraid my number might be up on the next one so I'm extra careful lately.

He's new to motorcycles- it's always a good idea to move up the chain power-wise (though I think that the 883 was a bit heavy for a first bike)- I started out with a 250, moved up to a VFR, had a couple GSXR-1100Rs, and then got a Hayabusa- you have to walk before you run.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

For a new rider a 883 would feel powful and the I am sure the sporty has a bit of grunt and enough to keep HB grining for the next 6 to 12 months.
HB so are you riding down to my place for the piss up at the start of next month. We are going to crash and run a muck at someone elses resort this time
Yes but I do what my wife told me, If I am drunk make sure to bring the bike home before dark and take the carOriginally Posted by Mr Pink
I feel the same way some times as I have had many close calls in Thailand and think its time to give the sport bikes a miss as I normaly ride like a retard on crackOriginally Posted by Mr Pink
Try opening the throttle when you're sober. You will notice the Harley not going anywhere, just making more noise.Originally Posted by hillbilly

The new bike, 2006 fresh over from Nippers.
1994 Ducati 916 SP ... The import duty nearly bankrupted me.
Very rarely do I take it out, and when I do its usually up Highway 305 towards Nakhon Nayok then into Khao Yai NP, or occasionaly the odd open day at BIRA Circuit.
Back in the days when I had hair, let alone grey ones, I used to race motorcycles, bith circuits and road racing, I did the Manx TT circuit but only during Manx GP fortnight never the TT itself .... fark I thought I was flying to hit an average lap of 110 MPH yet this years TT's its now over 130 MPH.
In all honesty I dont really enjoy taking a bike out on public highways, I am quite capable of overcooking it myself without needing other roadusers around.
I had the good fortune of taking a friends Duke 1198 R around Lusail circuit in Qater late last year, what a dream of a bike to ride, but alas nowhere to ride one here and the import tax is too prohibitive.
I know where there is a nice 999R for sale it still in bits at the moment as it was just imported if anyone is interested
Cheers Rigger got it
Still a forum Virgin so cant reply to PM direct yet
How much for the Ducati?
^ Sweet ride. Shame it wasn't this year's CB.
