    What was your first car

A blantant rip off of Mrs Q great thead, show us the firsts purchase and tell us a bit about it. Mine was this little screamer.

A 1936 Morris 8 SPORTS, yes this was the real McCoy a high performance sports car.
Could nearly top 50 MPH down hill, put out about 23 Hp.
Side Valve 883 cc, wire wheels (well they all had them) Electric Lights, all the factory options in fact.
Ask me, Did I pull the birds with this? (No)
Purchased in 1960 when I was about 12 Years old for 50 Quid, I had a Rural driving licence only, I wasn't meant to drive it in town, but I did because back then as now I was a breakway, Rebel James Dean like character, fearlessly flouting the law. In fact I was known as the "Rebel without a clue"

Had it for about 2 yrs but got tired of being passed by old ladies driving Morris 10's so swapped it for a chopped and channelled Ford V8 into which I put a 327 Chevy motor.

    ^cool ride!

My first car was far more pedestrian. A 1965 peugeot 403, 4sp column shift, the best part was the sliding metal sunroof!
I let my girlfriend drive it and the brakes failed in the West Virginia mountains and crashed into a cliff. Seat belts saved our bacon.

    This is a 1960 model I couldn't find a pic of a 65 model.

My first car was a 1972 Morris Marina with the 1750 OHC engine. A total POS.

    Right, this:

was my first car. Not this exact one obviously, oh no mine was much more crappy than that!

Can't quite remember how much I paid for it ($500?) but however much it was it was about $1,000 too much.

As optional extras it had brakes and indicators - optional because they rarely actually worked. If you parked this car next to a great big, steaming, pile of poo the pile of poo would get offended and leave. It was that bad.

    And I loved it!

    Ford Capri 1300L

The engine was the size of a shoe box. It didn't have enough power to put the back end out unless you drove on sheet ice. For every extra person in the car, you could deduct 25% off the top speed. That being said, it managed to drive for about 5 miles with a hole in the block where a con-rod had decided to escape. It needed topping up with oil though. Bought an old Cortina engine for about 30 quid and off she went again. I even sold it to some poor sap who I used to work with.

Mine was an orangey-yellow. Reg VAP 821 S.

Mine was a '72 Fiat 128 2 dr Sedan. Absolute ripper of a little car - fond memories of it - even through all the breakdowns, blown headgaskets etc.
Took me halfway across australia, and always got peoples attention when it started revving !!
    Bought it for $350

Ended up buying a 2nd one that was an ex rally car and put all the goodies onto mine, was a little bullet after that !!

Ok boys, its' time to run with the big dogs. 1966 Chevelle SS 396, modified too much to list. blew the doors off of just about everything.

But...to be honest, I had my older brother's 58 Hillman Minx for a few months.

On second thoughts this thread bites, my cars improved markedly after the Datsun 180B (and lets face it, they only could). I even owned what could be considered some classics! Damn your first carness!

I'm actually thinking about buying one of those now as a 2nd car.

Can still find some nice examples floating around the place. Cheap too.

^does it have an engine or pedals? Pedal cars don't count.

    My first motorbike:

I bought it with my paper route money when I was 12.

^You must be a youngster! That a right fancy late model (early '90s?) for a first car. That makes you about 30 years old!

    I love 240s. I drove a '78 242GT for several years, wonderful car.

    440 was 1990 110,000 miles on her

240 was 1990 as well I think - just didn't have the comfort handling or econmy of the 440

I miss my 440 it was great.

I ended up getting a Rover 420 Turbo after the 440

Was touched by my mate Harry. Chipped, tuned, polished, ported, boosted, lowered, bigger stainless exhaust, some other magic worked on it, but it looked completely standard like that one.

Could crack 150mph without too much effort still some to go. Never found the top speed. Heard stories of them being pushed up to 170mph+ with some tweaking
