Has Thailand made you lax about your car?

I had to get my brake pads changed a couple of days ago, it's easy to tell when they are worn down by the metal on metal noise every time you brake, but I didn't realise how lax Thailand has made me on checking the basic road worthiness of my car, should add that it done the old Thai version of MOT and tax a couple of weeks ago and this wasn't pointed out, maybe they thought it still had a few more miles left on it I suppose.

    One of my tyres.

Think I should have the odd occasional look over my car every now and again just to see how dangerous things are getting

Yea, I took my Vigo in today to the toyota dealer in Udon, he said where is the card? what card?
The card that gives the history,
    I dunno mate !
Its got history, he said the card tells us what service has been done,
I dunno bout that mate, you don't need a card to tell you that, none, its never had a service.
I mean its only just turned over 100,000 K's so I though it should come in for its first service.

Always serviced by Toyota as recomended new tires when I feel the need. Last set had 80k on them and still plenty of tread but changed them anyway because they were getting to about 4 years old.

Nup, I've always been a lazy fecker when it comes to such things, but mate that tyre is a shocker.

The lads at my local massage joint usually look after things like tyre pressure, oil, and coolant levels when they give the old Kerr mobile a wash .

To make sure alls well i take my truck to the dealer and have them do recommended maintenance. Right now i have about 95,000 Km and only problem i have had is one flat tire.( Knock on wood. )
I took in my truck at 80,000 Km and told them to change all belts and hoses they thought i was crazy. I just like to stay ahead of the game before anything gos wrong. NO AAA here that i know of.
at 100,000Km i will have all fluids and filters changed. better safe than sorry. Also while in Banchang on the 25th i will have new brakes installed also front and back drums and Disk serviced.

I very rarely use the car, it's just parked up most of the time, I am pretty glad I haven't been testing out its top end the last few months, it's supposed to be able to do just over 200kmph i only ever took it up to about 195kmph and that was a couple of years ago have to find the pics I took

Toyota seems to really be on top of stuff anymore.
We take the forskinner out to Toyota for service, supposed to be 10k km for it, and they pull all the wheels and check the brake pads and linings, clean the dust out of the drums, rebalance and rotate the tires, check all torques on the steering and stuff under the front and the wheel lug nuts, check all fluids and filters, clean the insides and wash the foker.
I am finally happy with a dealership and the even have the correct tools, no more hammer and a big screwdriver for a prybar.

Hopefully you changed the engine oil a few times during the 100K.

I keep an eye on the maintenance of my vehicles(I've got too many). I'm not as fastidious as I once was. I wont let a set of tyres go bald and I'm have brakes done before they're metal on metal! I'll go to the part shop and buy a new air filter instead of letting the Thai mechanics blow out the old one. I use synthetic oil in the gasoline engines to extend oil changes.
I got a small network of good local mechanics and body shop guys to get the major stuff done.

It's hard enough to get my motorcy serviced properly. I don't look forward to trying to get four wheels taken care of.

Toyota dealer here is not as good, took it in and told them, want a service and that the motor was making a pinging sound in the mid range when accelerating just like preignition in a petrol engine, as well its smoking under acceleration. When I picked it up they said service and we check suspension like you asked.
I never mentioned suspension ! so I said what about the engine? she said no problem.
I ask, did you check it?
    No ! No need.
So its the same as it was before, still pinging and still has excessive black smoke under acceleration, I guess its like my bikes if I want it done I have to do myself.
I dunno how you get through to them, Its not miscommunication as I explained it all in detail to the senior service guy and had him repeat it all back to me.
They just think, the customer knows fvck all, we know it all, so will do what we think necessary and nothing more.

Mine just hits 60,000 km so it's service time again (pretty fast). I also found a wreck on one tyre though, it's just on the surface but my friend said I need to fix it then it might explode. Really?

Yes. You have a crack on one of your tyres. You'd be an idiot not to get it changed.
