Moving to Jomtien this Saturday and need to know a good place where I can rent a good automatic motorbike by the month. Went to a place in Pattaya this past weekend and the guy quoted me 4,500 for a manual!!

Tell him you want to ride it, not look at a book telling you how to fix it! Sheesh...
I meant manual transmission vs automatic.
I know ...
You can find where to rent quite a lot in Pattaya or Jomtien. I did it once for my French boss but that guy denied to let Thai rent the bike.
What engine size are you looking for?
Just small one, I don't know how big it is.
This thread reminds me that I have got to get wheels too. Living on the song tau route is pretty easy though. There are lots of places in Jom that rent out motorcycles Durian. I would shop around before committing though.
I have heard some stories before where a guy rents a bike and the owner get someone to steal it so that he can charge the renter for the loss.
I don't know the validity, but the circumstances sounded very convincing i.e. the would be thief had a set of keys.
Lord, deliver us from e-mail.

I will rent you one cheap durian, i was thinking of buying my galfriend a new one, its a red 110cc step thru thingy.
^^
Cheers for the link Dougal.
I am soon going to be starting a bike rent/touring business and get rich really quick.
With a name like DRAGON BIKES, it can not fail.
All those bikes are a lot smaller than the ones you were talking about. When you're ready i'll introduce you to my neighbor. He can put together a couple/few bikes for you in no time.Originally Posted by ChiangMai noon

Yes, just had a look and they are all step through type things.
They hold bike markets up at sansai every Sunday but I've never seen any biggish ones.
I shall let you know when I'm ready, cheers franki.

Alright, thanks for the input, everyone. I'm looking for an automatic that would be good for a beginner like me! (and that won't break down). No worries - some of my co-workers have been helping me along a bit - although that first ride was a bit of a doozy. Thinking of getting 150cc, or would that be too big?
^
I'm not sure there are any automatics bigger than 125 cc.
Even though you are a beginner Durian I would recommend that you go for the more powerful engine. I have been riding motorcycles all my life and there are times when having that bit extra means that you an get out of a situation more quickly and therefor feel more secure. There aint a lot of difference between 100 and 150 anyway. Barely noticeable really. All the best.Originally Posted by durianfan

I preume that you are hoping to emulate the above.
I would be interested in doing a tour sometime and also acquiring an Enfield, as I have a soft spot for them - my brain probably.

On a much smaller scale to begin with Dougal.
Don't expect to make or hopefully lose a great deal. i just need something other than the job to get my teeth into, very very bored with the hummdrummness of it all. It was nice to have a businesss meeting with my wife over breakfast where I told her that it would be called "Dragon bikes".
Gave me wood it did.
Buy a bike with some torque, you don't want a tiny thing with completely no nuts to it. You will find at the end of the day that being able to merge effectively and accelerate on demand are actually important safety tools rather than liabilities. On the other hand don't think that adding size/mass adds value. I would bet that my CBR954RR would destroy Mrs. Quirrles blackbird on anything other than a straight road.
On the other hand he has a much more comfy seat!
Ok so I am loaded tonight and am trying to wind up things a bit but in all honesty my irrelevant post is an attempt to support the Capt. on his comment above.
Yeah I rode a 1000cc bike but it werent for speed. I got the nickname Captain Sensible from my mates when I was in England coz I was always so careful and never had an accident. Well I did have one but not a collision and then that was caused by low tyre pressure and slippery road. It is nice knowing that you have the power if you need it though.
On the other hand mopeds are like fat chicks.....They are fun to ride until your mates see you on them!
Got one today. I have no idea what speed it is (where do I check?) but it's an automatic. 3000 baht a month from an Israeli guy in Pattaya that a co-worker of mine recommended. Rides great.
Generally speaking if all the other vehicles are overtaking you, then you are going too slow. Or if you are overtaking all the other vehicles then try slowing down a bit.Originally Posted by durianfan
