Had the 3.0 Diesel for just over a year. Such a comfortable ride. Nong Khai to Bangkok in 6.5 hours done on 1600 baht. Before used to take 8 hrs plus in an Opel Astra 1.8 and 2000+baht; plus I was worn out by the drive.
Not another Fortuner ! every one and there Aunty has got one in Pattaya ! A bit like owning a Ford Cortina was in the old days in the UK !!
Difference being a Cortina was actually capable of being classyOriginally Posted by Sparky
If you can recommend something better then I'll consider. I don't want automatic or 4 wheel drive. I don't live in Pattaya so a Fortuner isn't that common. Please don't recommend a MU-7, I do not like.
I'm told that when I sell my old motor the insurance policy stays with the car, there's no surrender value. Is this correct.
Thanks
Honda CRV perhaps? Although I'm not sure if they come in a manual version.Originally Posted by oldboy

Interestingly enough friend of mine was telling me the other day that even Mark IV & V's are pretty rare on British roads these days despite so many being made/sold.
No it's not correct.Originally Posted by oldboy
You can transfer it to your next car.
Yes but the Fortuner is much more comfortableOriginally Posted by a. boozer
Better suspension.
True. But if he doesn't want 4WD or automatic, why not just get a car? Comfortable as they may be no Fortuner could match the ride quality of a decent salon.Originally Posted by Thetyim

I suppose it's like many of the 60s and 70s British cars that provided a reasonably cheap form of transport, not all sporty models, but some interesting ones were:
Austin Maxi, a great load carrier
Rover SD1, another great load carrier with performance
Ford Granada, in both saloon and estate versions
Vauxhall Ventora, good performance from the old 6 cylinder Bedford engine
Hilman Avenger, in it's (Tiger ?) version
Triumph PI saloons, Mk 1 and Mk 2
Ford Capri
BMC 1800
Am sure that there are many others that don't immediately come to mind, but certainly those mentioned above, have all become rarities nowadays.

I was never really a fan of British built cars despite owning a few. That has been changing recently, I'm gaining a new found appreciation. They sure did make some nice ones - even some incredible sports cars!
The list is endless and some very eccentric cars as wellOriginally Posted by AntRobertson
Indeed, as only the British can really do.Originally Posted by Thetyim
It's a shame now that most of their production cars are in foreign hands/ownership. Sorta spoils it somehow (even if it mostly means technically superior cars).
Do a google on "Railton", or "Ernest Eldridge" he took the world speed record with an aeroplane engine fitted into a 1920's london bus chassis. He had some balls.Originally Posted by AntRobertson
Also the original Chiity Bang Bangs where made in Canterbury, huge 22 litres cars. All good stuff.
Klarse!!! You have to love this bit:Originally Posted by Thetyim

My kinda guy
Oh. Dear. Lord!!!huge 22 litres cars
I think there were three cars built for the Count.
The one called Babs was sold to the welshman who took the world speed record in it on a beach in Wales. He died in it as well, John Parry or something was his name
^ I didn't know that.
I knew it was buried where he died but I thought the locals had objected to it being "exhumed"
Thanks I will look it up
So do any of the other Chitty Bangs exist ?
