Car Cameras; safety videos; what's good?

So, the missus is considering getting cameras for the car in case: 1) she has an accident; 2) somebody hits the car when she's parked.

    Any recommendations?

What do you have? How much was it and how well does it work?

Many thanks in advance; I'm looking through the motoring section looking for similar threads, but only found motorbike ones thusfar.

Just took my car cam out.

    It was wank.
Never caught any UFO footage, never caught any crashes or stoopid shit.

If you get one, get a bumper mounted cam with exceptional zoom.

Post the upskirt footage on here.

    You're welcome.

Thank you, Stoker - always a bonus when you've added your great wisdom to a thread.

The missus showed me a set of two which came in under 2,000 baht all in: ????!! ????????????????????? ???? Car Max Box

I was worried they'd be total shite, so started up this thread.

Sorry... FFS do you use the 2 camera setup- front and rear view.
Do you think that the heat in the car, particularly when stationary affects the camera.

    I have an Original " A-mego G1-Pro. "

Bought it 2.5 years ago for 3 K, they are now 2.5 K but Lazardo was selling them a few weeks ago for around 1500 Baht. I nearly bought another one.

I've thrashed it to death on my road trips, taken it back to Australia, thrashed it there as well and will do again in three weeks time.

Taken hundreds of hours driving I reckon.

It's been brilliant, never missed a beat. 32 Gig max card.

Around six hours and rewrites over its self.

Beware there is an after market one floating around and this could be the one they are flogging on Lazarda.

    The A-mego is the Original.

    Google it up.

Get a decent Western brand model, you won't pay much more but will last you forever.

Can probably get a Garmin for 6k baht or so.

the crappy no brand made in china junk will fall apart or have software issues within, well, 1 week to 2 years of purchase. After which time you'll choose to buy the Garmin anyway.

Recently got a GoPro Hero 4 Session, primarily for.cycling, but also mounts neatly next to the raar view mirror in my car. Simple one touch start/stop, and range of options for resolution/fps. Vibrations are hardly noticeable at all.

Install the GoPro app on your phone/PC and you can review and edit etc.

Lazada have them for circa 7000 baht with mine delivered in 3 days.

I bought a cheapo Lazada no-name for something like 600 Baht. Had it for about a year and then my Mrs borrowed it to use in her car and lost it. God knows how.

Nothing fancy but it did what it said on the box. I put in a 8Gb mem card and off it went, overwriting old footage once the card was full. I figured that anything more than using an 8Gb card was pointless since it's really only the last few seconds that are the important bit.

    Mine was like this one:
    OEM FHD Car Cameras ?????????????? ???? G30C (Black) | Lazada.co.th

my cheapo has lasted 4+ years - but the sun is getting to it I think . sometimes it needs a full reboot

most of these car cams only work when you turn on the ignition as the battery is very small - mine is 200 mAh

really you would want coverage non stop so you can also record parking incidents

I bought a 2 din android for the avanza mainly for a reversing cam but it has inputs for other cameras - it is a sh1t unit , but for some reason the good ones do not seem to be available

    this was what I wanted - http://www.amazon.com/Pumpkin-Univer...=pumpkin+2+din

at some stage the manufacturers will think of the need to have full recording all the time

so get a cheapo cam - 1k baht and a 8gig micro SD - just record at 720p and overwrite

look around in korea for a 2 din head unit with all the bling ( and with an orange hue ) and get it installed with the full cam upskirtsetup etc
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

It has turned out my 32 gig card has come up trumps.

At the end of every trip I have six hours of touring on the card which I load up on the putor as a reference for each trip.

Boring stuff I edit out and keep the interesting parts. Very good quality recording by the way.

And further to that you will find that the small battery will die after a few years and hold no charge at all such as mine has.

    No big deal though.

    Some good stuff !
By coincidence I was playing with my car cam a few days ago, it was gifted to me and was never really good.
Now I think the sun has damaged it so thinking about a replacement.

The idea of recording your trips interests me as well as the protection if I get into a situation.
Some good ideas here but a reasonably cheapo or a quality one, but then how much better is an expensive unit compared to a reasonable price ?

    ^

The thing with the cheapy Chinese ones are that they may last for years or they may last 5 minutes, one never knows.

The heat these cameras are subjected to in Thailand is massive same as the GPS.

I recon if you get a few years out of them you are doing well, mines running on over time.

All the reviews for my camera came up positive and said it was a great little runner for the price.

    They were correct.

I'll certainly buy the same Camera if it shits it self no probs at all.
