Prior to purchasing my two pickups I rented a Honda Jazz from Hertz. The Jazz had window tint film, which if I remember correctly was from Lamina. The sides and rear windows had a mirror like reflection to them so I suspect that film had some metal in it. The front windshield did not have a mirror like reflection so I suspect that it did not have metal in that film. I drove quite a bit in the Jazz using my Garmin nüvi 55 and I did not notice any degradation in GPS performance.

When I purchased my 2015 Toyota Hilux Revo Smart Cab 4X2 2.4J, I did not want to spend as much money so I decided to have Toyota Buriram install the 3M Smart Series (FX and FXR) that they normally include as part of a sale. The sales lady asked me what I wanted as far as FX or FXR films and percent tint on the windows. I responded by asking her to make a recommendation. She recommended 60% tint on the sides and 40% on the front. She said that anything darker could be an issue with law enforcement officials. She also recommended FXR (with metal in it) on the sides and rear windows and FX (without metal in it) on the front windshield. She recommended FXR on the sides and rear windows because it is also slightly better with reducing inside temperatures than the FX film. She recommended FX for the windshield because it does not have metal in it and won’t adversely affect the GPS. She was aware that FXR can possibly cause a problem with GPS and mobile phone performance. I was satisfied with her demonstrated knowledge and based on my experience in the rental car I went with her recommendations. To date I have not had any issues with GPS performance in this pickup.

I have been satisfied with the Toyota Buriram service that I have received. I suspect that if Toyota Buriram thinks that they can increase sales or make money by offering Crystalline they will come up with a solution to meet those business goals. That solution may be to get the requisite training for their technicians or locally outsource the installation.

The Garmin Nuvi 55 has guided me all over Thailand. It's been sensational .

Does not like inner Bangkok though, the flyovers block the signal sometimes and way to many roads to calculate quickly.

If Toyota dealers fit 3M screen film then I'd expect them to be able to fit the full range offered by 3M. Especially knowing full well that standard screen film interferes with the GPS. Irrespective of knowing this fact they go ahead and fit non-compatable screen, as in my case.

Thanks for that info M1Tanker. Obviously Toyota dealers are aware of problems that can occur when using non compatible film but fit it anyway to save the cost of sending their fitters for extra training.
Pragmatic just trying to justify this tint thing being the problem.
It don't go sound right as I have a Fortuner with a Garman GPS on the dash.
I don't have a problem with it at all with 40% film.
We did talk with Toyota to day & was told it has to be reprogrammed.

You have 40% coverage or full screen protection? And what brand?
I'm not saying positively that the screen in my car is the cause for my GPS to malfunction. Toyota are saying that the 3M non-conforming sun screen, that their dealers fitted, could be the problem as they know screens containing metal does cause interference.
Now my dealer only fits 3M so I want them to fit '3M Crystalline Series' film which is the recommended screen to fit in a car with GPS. My dealer will not do that for whatever reason. Until they fit that screen I cannot say 100% if it's the GPS that's faulty.

I explained earlier that my windscreen has now been replaced due to stone damage. Toyota accepted the repair to the windscreen and the sunscreen replacement. After they replaced the screen they said they could not fit the sunscreen that is GPS compatible. I now have no sunscreen as they say it will take a number of months to order from the US even though it's available in Thailand. Without the old un-compatible sunscreen in my car the GPS appears to be working, locally.

When I picked the new Revo back in August 2015 they gave me a new dash mounted GPS .
I think they know some thing is wrong & I think I will have dig it out off the cupboard.

    Regarding my GPS problem.

Having been contacted, by phone, from Toyota BKK it all ended there. The guy said he was going to speak with my local dealer. I expected him to get back to me after that. No fcuking chance. No assistance from my dealer either.
It seems that the problem was the 3M sunscreen film that my dealers fitted knowing full well it wasn't compatible with GPS.
I've now had fitted 'Hi-Kool' compatible film. So far, no problems and everything seems to be working correctly.

Pragmatic, Here is the answer to your PM. I tried to answer you but apparently I need to have 20 posts before I can do so.

I found the English language capability at both the Isuzu and Toyota dealerships here in Nang Rong lacking, but not as lacking as my Thai language capability. Toyota Buriram has a competent sales lady that speaks English fairly well.

Okay mate. I was just inquisitive being as Toyota Nang Rong give free oils, with their servicing, for life on cars bought through them. They honour that 'free oils' as long as the car remains in the buyers name. A good offer in my book.

I have a Toyota Hilux Revo with a built-in GPS. I would say that it generally works quite well but I get stuck with the message: "Speed pulse disconnected. Please check the connection." and wherever Toyota have been been, no one has found a solution, they just ask where I bought the car, if the GPS is built-in, etc. , of course, as mentioned, it is the one supplied with the truck, and I still wait a right answer. Does anyone else have the same problem and if so how and where did he solve it? Another question, where the records of the dash cam are saved?

^^ Should be a simple short circuit in the ECU. The speed pulse kicks in when you loose your GPS connection when going through a tunnel or whatnot.

This may explain it better...Toyota Sienna Service Manual: Vehicle Speed Signal Circuit between Radio and Navigation Assembly and Combination Meter - Diagnostic trouble code chart - Navigation system - Navigation

The speed sensor wire on Toyotas is coloured purple and white.

That should kick in when you lose gps. Ie driving under trees to retain your place on the map.
