    Hilux Tyres

    Guys

Need new tyres for the Hilux but don't want to buy from Toyota. Can you recommend a reasonable make.

    Thanks

There are many shops selling tires, where are you in outback Australia.
Toyota have stopped fitting Bridgestone & now using Yokohama tires, less noisy, & better control.

My Hilux Vigo came new with Michelin tires on it. First set lasted me 83K km so I bought a second set and like 'em fine

    '500,
As I guessed you've surmised, you don't have to go to Toyota and pay a [probable] marked up price.
Michelins are good, but go to any tyre [tire] shop - Bridgestone,Maxxis etc - and get the same size -it's written on the sidewall of the tyre. Make sure they include balancing of all 4 wheels in the price.
    That's about it. Enjoy.

My first set on my Hilux was Bridgestone lasted 2 year 120K & still could have gone 1 more year, but the tires were very hard & to dangers.
The guy where I change the tires told me toss the tire every 2 years as they get to hard.
My New Hilux have the Yokohama's on so we will see how they go.

Same for the Michelins, but mine were worn down at 40,000 for some reason.. Changed to Bridgestone all round at the 50,000 service mark. Seem to be doing fine so far.

Now the thread appears to be finished can I hijack it? Toyota in the past have given the spare wheel the same hub as the other 4. I just did my first 10k rotation on my Fortuner but the spare's hub doesn't match with the other 4 so I can't do a 5 wheel rotation as I've done in the past. Have they given me the right hub with my spare? Or is this now standard for Toyota to give you a spare with a different hub?

BM yes that is the way to go mate.
As I had 1 set of bridgestone on the pickup, was noisy as fvck.

    toront500.

how long is a peace of string.
The price will depend on the size of tire you have.
    My Hilux is 4 x 4 & tire size 265/65 R17 112s priced around 4,000b each
I think that Toyota charge around 6,000b each

    Pragmatic that's standard Toyota rim.
Only rotate the 4 as that 5 rim is a spare. when I sold my 9 year old hilux the spare tire was still new, maybe 10 kilometres uses.

I laugh every time I see a Thai on the side of the road with a flat tire, as they are to slack to get the flat tire fixed then they get the second puncher.

I drive a lot of kilometres & always like to have good tires on the Hilux.

    Guys

    Thanks again.

Wife was quoted just under 8k per tire at Toyota a couple of weeks ago, not sure of the make. I'm thinking around 20k for 4 for Michelin.

My last Fortuner had 5 rims all the same. I rotated all 5 ever 10k. When I rotate the wheels now I still have to remove the spare to do it, then take the spare off the last wheel and refit it under the arse end unused. Seems stupid to me.

I have both Hilux & Fortuner the spare wheel are steel rim
I go to the local tire shop 200b problem slolved.
I would go to the local tire shop & buy a matching rim if not happy.

Paid 5,400 / tyre for new Bridgestones at a local "Tire Plus" in Rayong. 8k / tire is way over the odds, mate. Shop around a bit more.

Is that for a Michelin? Would you recommend the Michelin tyres for off road work, farm and jungle tracks -medium to large boulder strewn river crossings and red clay slippery slopes?
