    MG Cars Thailand - curious

Been a while since MG went boom, and Nanjing / SIAC scooped up the rights to MG along with Rover.

I noticed just now they have an MG brand website in Thailand though?

an supposedly a load of dealers as well. Don't think I have ever seen one on the road here though. Anyone else?

Guess they do not think the China Brand will sell very well.... so go for the old image instead...which also didn't sell very well.

I saw about five or six of them driving through Hua Hin last week, the MG6 saloon, I suppose journos must have been road testing them.

    UK road test here.

Ugly. It's pricier than the Toyota/Honda versions, so not sure how to justify the purchase.

Nice to see more options in Thailand though.

A nice little game is to try and work out which outdated cars tooling they bought to make the car with.

I am seeing sniffs of Mazda 3 series, and last generation 3 series beemer.

It seems as if it was a new design. They all seem to look alike these days, with only the jewellery of the designs, headlights, tail lights, intakes and window outlines differentiating one from another.

It looks better in the metal than it does in photos and for a new company its not a bad start, maybe in 5 or 6 years they will be producing cars worthy of the MG name.

Like Jaguar, they have history and heritage and a resurrection of the MG spirit would be a good thing, especially for the workers who put them together in one of the assembly plants in the UK.

    And from Autocar,

The MG 6 had a lot to prove and, although in most respects, it falls way short of what you'd expect from a car in this sector, it does at least show that MG has ample promise.

For a model born out of significant corporate strife, it’s admirable that the MG 6 comes so close to offering a competitive package, and even more impressive that, in terms of ride and handling, it is comparable with the best in its class.

It offers a package that proves MG has ample promise
But although the 6’s strengths point towards a bright future for MG, it’s hard to recommend this car. It is unforgivable to offer such a below-par drivetrain, which is short on refinement and usability and at least a generation behind the best in efficiency.

The MG 6 illustrates well that its maker is just one step behind the established players. But until it has caught up, the deficit in the finished product is too great to overlook.

Could be a Hyundai or a Kia. They all look alike these days.
