Regardless of price Michelin's are the way to go on passenger car and trucks. They last longer and handle better than the rest.
And Betty if you're worrying about whether a set a tyres for the Honda City is going to dent your budget you probably shouldn't be owning any automobile at all, stick to scooters and salengs for transporting heavier stuff.
That said I do take care of the BFG 35x12.50x15 mud tyres on my landrover cuz they are about 10k a pop, but they do last a good long time. The current set is 6 years old and about half worn down.

Cycling should be banned!!!
^Agreed tyres aren't cheap here, but tyres for a City are cheap as chips basically and a good set of Michelins will last 90k kms.
10k baht is what I budget for the occasional weekend at the Nana. 40-50k for a set of tyres on the rover now that stings a little.
Seriously if 10k for a set of tyres stings your budget your really need to reevaluate your situation. You might not really need a car and you probably could get by with a lesser house to rent. There's nothing wrong with living like Thai people here in Thailand.
If I had to I could easily ditch the old wore out big bike, my two old wore out cars and two old clapped out trucks and operate with a couple of scooters the saleng and the old Kubota tractor. I own the house I live in, we grow much of our own food. Don't use much electricity fans no A/C.

That's just stupid - 1000 pounds for tyres... I had a sporty(ish) Passat, big engine, bigger tyres and rims, never paid anything like that for tyres.Originally Posted by Mr Earl

Now, regarding your stupid and arrogant comments, the average salary for a lecturer in Thailand is 30,000 baht, so one third of a month's salary for tyres is noticeable. If you're saying that folks on such salaries don't deserve a car or should reevaluate their lives and live on a motorbike, then, with respect, that's a comment that a stupid cnut would make...Originally Posted by Mr Earl

No argument from me there. That is something which is pure indulgence. I could easily live without an expensive to maintain and tyre Landrover. But when I was making 100k a year I invested luckily/wisely and am not feeling the pinch..yet (it could also always come) also I invested in income generating enterprises here which have (luck be with me) borne fruit.
But to quibble about price of a set of tyres for a City which should last practically forever is beyond being a tightwad.
I'm not being condencending to recommend you live within your means which is easily done here if you have the mind to.
Good sense there.Originally Posted by Mr Earl

Oh yeah, and the 25,000 baht per month I put in my equitable life pension scheme fuked up and liquidated itself into new homes and cars for the company's executives while the company went bust...
I suspect Betty may be peeved because whatever the expense, it could have been avoided for another 30k miles by a more careful driving style.
Everyone has the right to bitch about unnecessary expense.

If she likes drifting, i found this on a forum about this fun sport
In this order this is what I run here in japan
In the Rear

RE o1's I know they are discontinued for the most part...
if you get a pair don't expect to much from them on the rear. They exploded on me within 20 min of drifting from the center out.
on an upside.. I had pretty much zero under-steering up front.
Monday,Tuesday, then it goes WTF !
Need to replace my tyres. What was the consensus?
It's a BT-50 (older model) 4 years olds. It has the original stock Michelens. What's the best tyres for this car, lots of highway driving on shitty mountain roads.
For a small/mid sized car you can get a set of decent tyres for 10,000 baht.Originally Posted by 9999

^Michelin Pilot Sort 3. Great tire but I have to say that. But seriously, they are way better than the Pirelli and Yoko I have had and last longer too.
Here's a plug!

You bullied, you laughed, you lied, you lost!
Looks like about 7500 bt per tyre for standard ones

I have recently had to replace the crap michelins on my pajero, not worn out about 50% left, but the tyres are falling apart as the carcass has fallen apart, got prices new michelins 8200 each new bridgestones 5000 each, so lets give the bridgestones a go.
My old michelens still have tread but they screech on light corners, lock up easy are about to fall apart. And its about to start pissing down rain.
^ At least they'll be clean.
Are the bridgestone any good? there's a bridgestone shop around the corner.
So far so good and are not as hard as the michelin crap and do not squeel all the time on u turns
Watch a show on tires the other day that tested low mid and high priced tires and the low cost tires out performed all other tires in normal street driving and tests. Let's see if I can find it on YouTube
Has anyone used firestones? The main tire shop said they can't get bridgestones in, normally 5300 each. They have michelen (5500) and firestone (4200) in stock. The run down bridgestone dealer down the road has them in stock for 5100 which is 200bt cheaper but they are shifty chinese fukers and dont have air con waiting room.
So 4200 bt for the firestones seems cheap. It's probably that or sweat it out with the dodgy chinks. The woman on the phone at the big shop was helpful. She said come down and take a look at the firestones, they're strong and beautiful and exactly the same as bridgestone with a different stamp. If I dont like them just get the michelen.
ended up going with bridgestone, found another shop that had them. They also had the cheap firestones but dont want to take a risk on tires and they did look a bit dodge. 21K bt for a set of 4.
