Let's hope so. If the peace can be sustained it does bode well for Iraq.

McCain predicts troops will be out of Iraq by 2013

Quote:
WASHINGTON - Sen. John McCain looked into the future Thursday and predicted that American troops would return home in victory by the end of his first term as president in 2013.

"By January 2013, America has welcomed home most of the servicemen and women who have sacrificed terribly so that America might be secure in her freedom. The Iraq War has been won," McCain said in a speech in Columbus, Ohio.
Quote:
"It's not a timetable; it's victory. It's victory, which I have always predicted. I didn't know when we were going to win World War II; I just knew we were going to win," McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, told reporters. "I know from experience, you set a day for surrender—which is basically what you do when you say you are withdrawing—and you will pay a much a heavier price later on."

How come the Lamestream Media is ignoring the latest Good News from Iraq, eh?

"The Media totally ignored the Petraeus hearings this week on progress in Iraq.

Was this by accident?... Or, was the news just too much for the American public to handle?... Do you think they'd ignore the news if violence was at a 4 year high instead of a 4 year low?"

Oh...btw, the Surge is working...heh

Looks like the US isn't going to get control of the oil, so may as well pull out now.

Rasmussen Reports suggest that Americans know we are more likely to succeed in Iraq if John McCain is President.

By 49% to 42%, respondents say it is "likely is it that the U.S. would win the War in Iraq if McCain is elected president."

On the other hand, only 20% think that if Obama is elected, we are likely to succeed. How about that campaign theme for ya! A vote for BO is a vote for faliure!

And do you think the average American knows anything about Iraq, (or anywhere else for that matter) apart from what they see on the domestic news?

A polling institute makes a survey where a small majority (diff is 7%) is of the opinion that "it is likely".
Wtf has it to do with knowing? ("suggests that Americans know").

You're reading the poll result like satan is reading the bible. As usual.

Guess it depends on how one defines success. If you want to cite polls, how about the ones that indicate approx 72% want the US out of Iraq within a year. Think they will have achieved success by then. Think not!!

Ipso facto, a vote for Bush was a vote for success.

I rely on non-lame-stream, objective sources like the Washington Post.

Take away here seems to be the increasing number of GOP members voicing concerns. Link contains excepts from the hearing so will try to read the entire session before forming an opinion.

The war was won long ago (2003)

Regime change has ocurred.

Iraqis are fitting out the last puzzle pieces by themselves -- securing their cities, borders and settling into the routine of elections. Aside from being far too expensive and slow, as measured by objectives, its been quite successful.

Not sure how your comment relates to my quote?

But they've been fodder for terrorist hunting US soldiers, 'security' providing contractors, AQ, Shiite and Sunni militias since 2003 - ask them which is worse.
