but it's not too hard to see how this will play out.....the military drops off fat envelopes full of cash in the right neighborhoods, and then a corrupt and PR savvy US military court convicts the troops of an absurdly reduced charge.

you should watch "GENERATION KILL" and see how they don't mind shooting civilians just because it can save 3 fucking seconds in their decision making process,

US government can't even run the social security system, what makes you think it could run a perfect invasion and handle a whole foreigner country ?

They were happy enough when the US came in and ran the Taliban out and let the people have what freedom that they are capable of having and using.
If they didn't want someone coming in abd fighting on their land then they should never have allowed the Taliban to form or remain in their place.
So I say it is just tough shit.
They could get off their ass and go out and get the Taliban out of there and then the foreign troops would have no reason to shoot anyone, bomb anyone or even stay in that stinking armpit of creation.

Ant, once again you show your ignorance and desire to repeat propaganda. The US funded resistance fighters in Afghanistan but tried to prevent funds going to Islamic extremists, however as the CIA was working through Pakistan’s intelligence services, there was some disagreements of who would get funds and it is entirely possible that some money from the US ended up in the hands of some fighters who would later join the Taliban although it was not US policy. But, no the US did not fund the Taliban as you so simplistically claimed.

Maybe you should try to read some more scholarly material and not solely rely on propaganda sites. I read a good book on this topic years ago written by one of the Pakistan Intelligence officer involved at the time. Sorry I forgot the name of the book.

And while the writer was often critical of Washington’s handling of the funding of anti-communist fighters in Afghanistan, he was clear that the CIA was well aware of the potential dangers of funding Islamic extremists and tried to keep the funds and weapons away from the radicals such as the Taliban.

But if a lie is repeated often enough it becomes a “fact” to you lefties. You are going to believe the worst of America regardless of facts, but each and every simplistic post you make just further demonstrates your ignorance and irrational hatred.

That would be a start, but I don't write on Middle-eastern or central Asian issues. My focus is on Southeast Asia, but I do think I have a fair understanding of some of the bigger international issues.
