| The Dog | Penang Banana Guesthouse Chulia Street Penang Banana Guesthouse Chulia Street This place has the backpacker market pretty well sown up, it's a pretty big place, about 3 buildings wide, and they pay a small percentage to the mini bus drivers to drop off the latest arrivals into Georgetown outside their place, renting a room here you do get to use the free internet laptop they have in the bar, your only supposed to use it for 30 minutes at a time, for their normal interent laptops it is 3 ringgit per hour, so if your a heavy internet user and aint interested in that 30 minute ruling then this place is really a cheap place to stay, if your a kind and considerate soul and not a heavy interent user I would reccommend staying somewhere else. The bar has a pool table which costs 3 Ringgit per game, the bar is also open 24 hours so that aint too bad, also they are a bit lax on your checking out time as long as your out before 1pm. I assume it does food, but it will probably be the normal sort of stuff that you really shouldn't waste your time on when there are so many great Indian Restaurants in the area. This room cost 46 Ringgit for the night, it didn't include a window or a toilet or any sort of flooring apart from concrete, but it had air con. The bed. The shower in the room, cold water only and in one of those modern miniture shower cubicles, also unless you pay a deposit you are not trusted with towels. One of the communal toilets, these all have showers in aswell and one does have a hot water heater. The communal toilet paper bin, quite a novel idea to have one bin for all the toilets, they also only had one toilet paper dispensor, so you go into the toilet block and collect some tissue paper, hit one of the cubicles and have a poo, then I think your supposed to carry your used toilet paper out of the cubicle and place it in this bin, I don't know about you lot but I don't carry about used toilet paper, it goes down the toilet with my poo. | The Dog | Penang Banana Guest house Chulia Street I have to admit I forgot to add the video for this place, obviously with no windows in the rooms this vid looks pretty shite, although the room don't help much. Aint worth 500baht, better off wandering up the road a bit to the Oriental I reckon. |

| I think they have two types of rooms in two different buildings. One is in the same building as the restaurant and is given to the outrageously sexy western college girls. The other building is for the over-40 sex fiends and junkies. The place started to be a hangout for newly successful young Indian men who come in to drink very expensive whiskey and gawk at the college girls. The management is trying to ban them, at least after a certain hour at night. One should check out some interesting items on the menu. The western breakfasts are mediocre, but they have some eastern dishes like the soft spring rolls that are quite good. The wait staff is also quite professional. |
