Borneo, " Kuching " state of Sarawak 2006

The following photos are of my trip to Borneo, the Southern city of Kuching and the surrounding areas.

Kuching is a very pleasant city situated on the river, lots of culture, easy going people, good transport and value for money accommodation.

I visited one of there national parks, the Sarawak cultural village and many other sights.

I recommend people visit this area as flights are cheap from Asia and the rewards are worth the effort.

Ill post these photos over a few days.

    cheers.

River front promenade. Brilliant spot in the evening.

The local government redeveloped this water front, it comes alive in the evening with people, food stalls and provides a lovely atmosphere.

    India Street.

This street is famous for being the original street in Kuching and was used for most of the trade. Still a few original shops left with interesting architecture.

    Sarawak museum opened in 1891

A must see if you ever get over this way and a highlight is the reconstructed long house complete with skull trophies.

Ice cream seller outside the museum.

This old fella had some age about him and I wondered how he rode that friggin bike. He would not let me get a full facial shot but I wanted it because he was a classic lookin man.

One is my diving watch and the other is a silver bangle I bought from a hilltribe in the Chiang Rai area on my first trip to Thailand in 1987.

The local old fellas are a very well dressed interesting lot of individuals.
This is only a small town, I seen very little poverty and the locals seemed to be doing it easy.
