Has anyone shipped a house full of stuff back to the UK? What is the best way of doing it? How much does it cost?

not UK but same same.
how much it costs depends on if you go with a proper shipping company or a cheaper dipstick option.
and then how much depends on how much stuff you send, ie sliding scale.
I sent 14 cubic metres to Indonesia for about $200 p/m (door to door)
all of the companies, Santa Fe, etc will visit your place for free to do you a quote.
(just beware of dodgy underquotes.)
I know someone that got quoted for a shipment of 6 metres that upon packing changed to 12 metres!!! and therefore almost double price.
hope you are not shipping yourself out. depending on how many cubic metres, cheapest option is often a container. my experience- no problem, and if you pm me i will put you in touch with a reliable(!) thai(!) shipping agent who handled a container-load of export ceramics for me with no fuss, and at cheapest rates. outgoing is easy. incoming is a fukkupp!
cheers

I sent a 40-foot container from Los Angeles to Bangkok 18 months ago, fully insured -- Thai worldwide company. They loaded with comprehensive packing list at home, delived to my place here. Nothing broken, no exit fees, no entrance fees. The company is Omega Shipping in Bangkok. I can dig up the number if you like.
Chok dee.
Cost? umm ... couldn't be bothered with that. My uncle paid it.
A Canadian I know who had a lot of furniture and stuff recently got it shipped to Canada and it cost US$14,000!!!!!!!!!!!!
