Getting a haircut...

Most of us here in Thailand need a haircut from time to time. Well, except for the Brits most of whom have premature balding problems. But anyway this is what you can expect when visiting a hair salon.

First you will probably see the Thai females discussing their hair in detail.


Finally, it is your turn. First the shampoo and conditioner. Why do the stylists think that since you are a falang that either you want freezing cold water or boiling hot water splashed on the scalp?

Now time for the haircut. The experts have a variety of tools.


At least the stylists offfer you something to read.

I just run a set of clippers with #1 comb over me head ever few weeks. I got sick of walking into a hairdresses and asking the them nice girls for a cut then as you sit down a Katoy comes out from the back room to cut your hair

I always so no to this treatment. Somehow wet hair and electricity does not sound good to me here in Thailand.


I will let you guess the final outcome. The normal haircut costs about B120. However, I always pay B200 as it is wonderful to have a beautiful lady run her fingers through my hair and tell me that I am 'hansome'!

60 baht baber shop just like back home; c. 1954. The dude goes after my ears and nose with a q-tip and tiny scissors, fuck that 60 baht and I'moutta there. hate getting haircuts always have been thinkin "ponytail again" lately. always do 'round haircut time... wet it, comb it, tie it & forget it. Get's too hot get it wet, takes forever to dry tied back; kinda like a radiator...

Set yourself free and cut it mate. The first time I ever cut a pony tail off I got out of the chair walked outside and it was windy so I grapped by band and then my hair, and I had no hair. Damn near puked after 6 or more years with a pony tail I was nautious for shock. No shit. Never had anything like that happen before or since. Damn good haircut though and looking at picures it was still quite long.

Sorry, didn't mean yours wasn't stylish, should have probably used the word more "complex" - I used to do the number 1 all over as it's the easiest cut to do, but over the years have learnt to do several other cuts - not that there any good, but probably as good as the average 50 baht Thai barbers and at least I know what I want - and what I'm going to get!!!

I've grown and cut three ponytails in my life. i was just past that not quite long enough stage when I went looking for work here (silly me). it's about hircut time. For me the ponytail is freedom. never worry about cuts always looks netly combed back due the that biggO rubber band. My hair is thick as fuck and it's either vry short or very long for me That 3-4 months waiting for it be tie-able is sheer fuckin agony 'specially in this heat!

I hate getting a hair cut no matter where it is. First off, I'm too shy to actually go into the shop and ask for a haircut, so I usually procrastinate for a few days until I work up the courage. Once I'm there I hate having to stare at myself in the mirror. Face it, I'm old and ugly and if I could wear clothing from head to toe I'd do it. Finally, the whole procedure is damn boring. I need something to do. Reading is OK except I'm always sure I'm gonna turn a page, disturb the barber and end up with a swatch of bald scalp.

I used to avoid all this by cutting it myself, but I do an awful job at haircutting and just about everything else I try.

I have had my hair cut in BKK a few times and with varied results. Usually i would take a picture and they would copy it which was great. I had this done at MBK a few times and then didnt need it as i was regular. Another time a friend of mine took me to her friends shop and she fucked it up completely. The next day i had a number one all over. The last few times have been the small soi hair dressers and they have done a great job, i did however take my missus to give instruction.

there used to be a just cuts place - 100 baht , 15 minutes - in the arcade at asoke subway station which was quick and ok

I made the mistake of stopping by a hair shop in Emporium. Usual wash routine, the thai man child started cutting. Half way through, a “hi-so” woman walks in. Lots of wais. And man child leaves me to start on big hair beehive woman. I got up and walked out and had a 150 b cut down the road.
