Here is my Battery set up, 120 AMP which lives in the Back of my wagon. It charges direct from my alternator.

The Engel fridge draws 2 AMP per hour if running constantly. It cycles on and off. So I can run the fridge for 60 hours before recharge if not running the engine.

I now have a solar panel so no need to crank the Motor if stationary for a while. 5 year warranty on that Battery, it's now 3 years in no problem.

Here is the fridge in my Van, 12 Volt, 240 volt AC or Gas powered. Pick one.

Works great on Gas, fire this up when camping for a spell.

Wow, I want that Engle fridge. I have been trying to find something for my next trip to Mexico. That is exactly what I have been looking for.
Not sure of the price. But, perfect for knocking around in the sticks it looks like.

Edit: Just Googled it. That is a very expensive toy.

That one is a 49 litre Jobby, big enough to take a stand up wine bottle. Perfect size.

They are bullet proof and are famous for running forever under harsh Australian conditions.

The only thing that fuks them is running them under a inproper voltage load.

The new models have an auto cut off, they shuts down when the supply reaches around 10.5 Amps. A fully charged battery is 13 Amps.

I monitor my battery everyday to ensure it is getting the correct Voltage. I let my battery run down to 11 Amps only.

The new 49 litre Engel is around $ 850 AUD in Australia. Not bad really for years and years of service.

When I return to Bangkok all my Batteries are stripped out from my car and placed on trickle charge keeping them fully charged.

The Engels really hold their value as well simply because they are so highly regarded.

I think that was uncalled for. But, since you started it.
I do remember you now. Aren't you the one the bar girls were talking about the other night. I think they referred to you as (khanom pang) bread.
Maybe a little camping, exercise and fresh air would help that little problem.

Terry and I have distinct camping styles, Terry has the kitchen sink for the OZ outback.

Whilst I am a little more lean and mean to tangle with Dutch girls on Holland's bike trails, chasing wild Belgium ale, goat cheeses, French wines and Roquefort style wild sanglier sausages.

My entire motorcycle camping kit fits in the nifty trailer.

When the spirit moves me; the whole kit folds up and I can hop on a TGV and cross Euroland in just a few hours.

NZ, Sounding like a Japanese model in the future. Just don't tell us you chose a Prius unless it's for the gf. I have an 01 Camery that ground to a halt. My mechanic said I could get a used motor out of Japan because they have some verry strict emissions laws so they just pull the motors and ship them off to who ever. You know anything about that practice. The car is still in good shape and could be saved.

Why not just rebuild it. I've priced it back home and it came in around 3 K.

Why piss around importing a second hand motor. ?

That's brilliant Earl , not for me though.

I do like my creature comforts especially when the weather turns nasty.

Spent many years tenting but it was getting caught in the rain one to many times that turned me onto ditching the tent permanently and sticking with the van.

Hey, Fish... to be honest, Prius alpha or Toyota Aqua (best selling eco-car in Japan) were on the top of our list... but I really want a 7 seater, when we take our kids (students) on trips, etc..

So I'm thinking I might get a near new Wish or Isis, and convert to LPG...
LPG doesn't seem popular over there like in Thailand.. not sure why.. mostly hybrids are in vogue..

Camry is a great car mate (especially the older models).. Are you in Thailand? I wouldn't bother importing a car, too much hassle bro.. off to Japan next month, hope to buy our first little investment apartment.. will have to do a photo thread of our trip...

Terry, your camper looks the business mate... they don't make stuff like they used to - sometimes better to re-furbish older cars, appliances, etc... rather than to buy new.. old shit is good shit...

    Yes,

I could go out and buy a brand new camper and a brand new car if I wanted to but whats the point in that. ?

I'm only in Perth every 6 months for 4-6 weeks at a time.

Plus I love my old stuff, it works, it's reliable and I know it.

Other thing is I've modified the car and van to go touring, fuk starting again.

I have great affection for my car and Van, fooking perfect for me traveling Solo.

Only ever use Caravan parks when I have no other option, so many brilliant secluded spots to camp up in my part of the world and I'm good for 3 days being totally self sufficient.

Ice is gone after that so must go get more.

I'm a bit , not too much, older than your mum then. The key is knowing when to run and just as important not looking back once in flight of foot. It slows the stride and can throw one off ballance.Trust me. The fish.

My dad is almost eighty and still kicking. I hope I get that lucky, time will tell.

As for the car it has 250,000 miles on it. The body is in good shape but it sounds as though the main bearings on the crank are wiped. I parked it in the back yard where my son lives. The way it sounded it wasn't going to make it another mile.

The kid ran it super low on oil then calls to tell me its shaking and making noises. I told my mechanic about it and thats when he said that he could get an engine from japan that has less miles and would basically drop right in. He said that in Japan they have some verry strict emissions laws so they pull the motors on a lot of cars and sell them in the states. He said the time it wold take to completely rebuild my engine would not be worth it to do cost wise.

I picked up a Hona Civic for the gf for a resonable price used. A nice little runner with awsome gas milage. 40 plus. We then gave the kid moms 4cyl, camery so the kid can get to work ( we had two Camrys). So the toasted one could be saved but people say it's not worth doing as it is a 2001 modle.

Might just scrap it or sell it. I dont need the hassle of towing it anywhere. I was just curious about the truth with the Japanese engine talk.

I would love to import my 1973 Mustang into Laos. Also Have a 1967 Yamaha ASI 125, a1972 100cc Yamaha and a '68 CL 350 Honda. As well as a HD1450 Electro glide CLassic. That would give me something to play with while Im not fishing the Mekong. Hell I might just retire early if I could have something to do in Nakhon Nowhere.

Funny story, a workmate when to the Chicago Shed Aquarium (sp?) last week with his family. They have a section of fishes from the Mekong there. He told his wife that he works with a guy that has a place on the Mekong. She apparently couldn't buy into the notion. He was like yes really, she still thinks he was messing with her. He said why would I lie about that. She came back with"And I suppose you know someone with a place on the Amazon as well. He said ,no.

Japanese imported cars were all the rage in Australia many years ago, I remember my old man bought one.

Don't know whether they are still doing it though considering second hand cars are so cheap these days and new ones as well.

It's the labor costs to fix cars that is the killer, really great time to be a talented mechanic.

The quality back yard guys are making a killing do cash work.

Yes, I bought several rides, cars, trucks and motorcycles.

My small advice: when you are going to drive yourself, make sure you have a 'all risk' insurance. Understand driving in Thailand: 24.000 deaths every year, they drive like maniacs.

Best buy is a NEW truck, it has warranty, service, and no cheating. Trucks are cheap, you buy a truck for 400k already. Buy an Isuzu or Toyota. Best buy.

If you have several millions to spare: buy an Mercedes.

    Good luck
