    Why you scared?

This remark while in Thai was addressed to me while on my recent trip to the tourist sites of P-Lok (photos will soon follow).

    "Why am I scared?"

Pack 178 family members and friends into a van designed for 12 school children and you can begin to see my frustration.

Well, the brother-in-law’s Toyota school van is rather ancient. There are a few seatbelts, but not for everyone. The road is curvy and we are trying to average 120kph.

Perhaps the biggest argument of my married life happened with the missus sitting beside me, in the middle of the front seat. What if you died I asked. The response, “nobody had died in this ‘wan’”. Then I mentioned that if the wife died who was going to be the mother to her child. Maybe the buffalo the mom came back as.
*If you are thinking about living with or marrying a Thai, never say this, Trust me!*

Regardless we all made it back alive. I refused to share my seatbelt….

In Africa we have a saying: "why own a dog, and bark yourself." Pretty self-explanatory, if you ask me.

Anyhow, shortly after I got together with my missus, I had cause to use this saying.

Whenever I remember this story, my balls still hurt - 4 years later

Although I had read it in a book before I even came here, it sure is a very sound piece of advise not to liken Thais and animlas in the same sentence.

*btw - yes, I did have to explain what the saying meant to the missus*

We have it in England as well. I use it all the time (usually about the maid).
