The 'I've been lied to and deceived' thread.

I work for a company using a middleman. The middleman is a waste of space, who does nothing but drain resources from both the main company and me. I have issues due to him being both completely incompetent and unnecessary, I brought this up with the company… queue the ‘mai bpen rai’ attitude. I received an offer from another company to work directly with them, my present company pleaded for me to stay under the promise that they shall renew my contract this year where I work directly for them. There were even jokes about how bad the middleman is by the dept. heads and apologies for having contracted him.

I agreed to stay under that promise as I love my job.

Meeting today about contract renewals, the middleman is of course to be used for the next contract.

Makes me feel completely unappreciated and, to be honest, like shit.

Guess that’s what I get for being honest, hard working and honourable... Good ol' Western values letting me down.

So been lied to and deceived? Made you feel like shit? Tell us about it.

Possibly, but I doubt it in this case. The reasons don't matter anyway. Being deceived and feeling used and unappreciated feels like crap, whatever the reasons are.

Yes, one who goes out of his way to satisfy all their customers.

Which I do as it's it my duty (I may add on edit), not because I think it means something here.

I was lied to today. I wasn't deceived, but my Thai g/f certainly was.

She dropped the key-fob remote for the car alarm and broke it. She then used the key to enter the car and that set off the alarm. She (or someone else) used the valet switch to disable the alarm and she drove the car home.

Unfortunately the car alarm was now no longer working at all, so I drove her along to the place that fitted it to get it fixed. The guy reset the alarm and charged us 300thb for a replacement key-fob. No problem. But when I agreed to that he started telling my missus that the other key-fob needed new batteries as one of the codes wasn't working. I smelt BS. The other remote was working perfectly.
He then tried to charge my g/f another 300thb for replacement batteries. When I questioned this, I was told I didn't understand and that the guy knew what he was talking about. I said up to you and let her do what she wanted.

If we bought a new key-fob for 300thb why do replacement batteries for the old fob cost the same? Surely it would be better just to have bought two new fobs and kept the third as a spare even with low batteries?

I know more than a few lying, lazy and dishonourable Westerners. More than a few here in Thailand at that too.

Absolutely. Probably more here than back in the West (% wise).

I suspect you're right there; Thailand seems to be a bit of a magnet in that regard.

At the earlier date of discussion you should have either got it in writting (no middle ma), or simply got them to agree to a new contract right then and there without the middleman. Once the new job offer was off the table you lost your power and they know it.

You could always try to bluff them with a fake "new" job offer? Of course you should have a plan going into the bluff as to what you plan to do should they call your bluff.

I could say that about Spain, Australia and any of the other places in the West I've lived as an expat.

You get a lot more chancers overseas I find, don't know why that is.

I have other offers. They know it too. I love this job, I love the satisfaction I give their customers. I have everything built already in terms of applications. Beginning again with another comapany means one year of hard work to get to where I am now. Staying would mean easy street in terms of effort.

The probable outcome is one of where I accept an other offer, do an unbelievably great job for the remainder of my contract to shove it in their face what their deceit cost them (a big fuking Som Nam Nah). I'll move on and have to start a fresh, they (the directors) probably won't care less.

Or of course I can be bitch, swallow it up, be on easy street and have to deal with deceitful lying cvnts on a daily basis while making them money.

This is one of the biggest reasons why I left Australia.

As soon as you get to middle/senior management, all the "fun" starts.
I even tried getting a job back in my trade (as a tradesman) only to be told at numerous interviews that I was over qualified.

90% of Australian bosses are just buck passing, lip serving liars whose best attributes are "appearing" as though they are "doing something" & "getting paid".
No longer are truth, integrity & diligence "real" factors in the western world, although these words quite often appear on paper.
Oh for fucks sake! Get a life & stop trying to fuck mine up!

Better yet ... Don't work here unless you can do it with 100% independence.

Thailand is a decent enough place to live. A horrible place to work.

I realize that the above statement is quite subjective ... but some folks will never get it.

Exactly. If you find your employment with these folks undesirable, don't continue to do so.
