One of my 14 dogs is dying due to old age. He is getting weak and sleeps a lot most days. He seldom eats. He has prolly lost his appetite as well. He often drops by at my location several times a day to sit right next to me. He is a good dog. It would break my heart when he goes away.....

I feel for you and your beloved, lets hope he goes peacefully, its 15months since mine passed away and not a hr.goes by without me talking to him,he was nearly 8,when you have a family member who gives you love, loyalty and asks for nothing in return,it becomes very difficult to get over it.
so to your beloved and you BE BRAVE. H.H.

Maybe if your 4 years old.

As I said,"Dogs die", include that in your; "A responsible persons decision to buy/own a dog", app. and weight accordingly..

after owning dogs in the uk.including being a greyhound owner/trainer i was used to having to dogs who were more than a DOGS BEST FREIND and could always handle difficult situations that arose, but not knowing the dangers here and the theiving bastards that only cared about money, with no thourght for the welfare of your pet,you know what i mean the [FARANG VIRUS] i found it very very difficult to except that they VETS thrived on the misery they could inflict on you.our boy was our life and my wife loved him more than me,i have said before if you had to choose one or the other i wouldnt have to think twice.from the time we rescued him he was about 2yrs.old and had already suffered a life of misery, but when we saved his life he NEVER let us forget, that is what made it hard for us to take it.
i will never own another although my heart tries to rule the brain, but i do get comfort helping them that are unfortunate to have to suffer a life of misery.
i am afraid this is a very cruel place.
SO PLEASE UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM TRYING TO PUT OVER. H.H.

Reading this thread with personal interest, it comes as no surprise that Thai vets are as mercenary as their human counterparts, with money trumping patient welfare.

No surprise at all, and must say this weighs heavily on the debit side for taking in a dog.

I've had no dealings with vets in Thailand.

My UK experiences suggested they always had the animals interest at heart , not fees. It may be the Thai religious beliefs, maybe a misunderstanding, only you can say.

Possibly, for any who have animals in Thailand, they should ensure the vet understands the owners views and is willing to follow them.

Are you trying to put over that you want to leave Thailand, and you'll be happy when you wash your hands of all Thai people and move positively forward with your life somewhere else?

at my age I am at the point of NO RETURN.
as for washing my hands of thai vets, yes I had too MANY MANY times.back in the uk. I did a lot of book keeping,eg.p.a.y.e. accounts, banking so I was and still able to use my marbles.
anyone who wants to have a butchers at records of vets visits 2015-2018 I would be more than pleased, believe me if you have ever had to visit one what I have will take some believing, known back home as TRICKS OF THE TRADE.
for three yrs.we never ever thought of the costs to us,that is why now I want to help the unfortunate [dogs]
and as I have posted before, its not only the local ones but 2 of the BIG vetinary uni's.the last one after 5hrs.there,and 5hrs.back, 11hrs.at the hospital without any answers other than come back in 14dayshe passed away after 8days.
my wife feels the same as me and is one not to mess with, she spent 20yrs.in the uk.in managerment so she to has a little bit more than me upstairs.
H.H.honest as the day is black.

Thanks for the comforting words HH. My dog is 8 years old and 3 months... He's running out of time. I just hope he gets a bit more time for me to say goodbye and get used to the idea of him going away.

Thats the point of being alive..... We enjoy things that won't last forever. In the end we all die... In the end everything stops... Honestly, I do not mind the pain. Nobody dies from it, unless one decides errr to jump off a condo.... My dog gave me 8+++ wonderful years. Was worth it, but you would never understand coz you're not brave enough to let go of your fears.

    So half of Isaan then??

I must have been lucky with vets in Thailand after our first bad experience where the vets killed our young bitch on the operating table by using too much aneasthetic. She only went in to be speyed, poor thing. But that was incompetence, nothing more.

I have nothing but praise for the vets we use now. Recently when test results confirmed terminal cancer we had our dog put down immediately. There was no attempt to give us false hope or screw extra money. Of course we spent some on meds in the hopes he had an infection while waiting on the test results, but it wasn't to be. I don't think you should tar all with the same brush, there are some honest, caring vets out there.

the topic was started 6th.april by chalkydee after much interest and concerns we have not heard since from the OP.so to keep discussions on anything to do with pets, treatment, the right food, breeds to have and not to have and the most important are the DANGERS of owning one in Thailand.
as I posted someone asking some important info[on the other planet tv.] regarding medication he was given with no information,i looked up exactly what he wanted to know.
medication colours, what treats what, what kind of parasites, symptoms, cheap crap tabs in plain bags with no info, you know the ones,1000 in a bottle costing 500bht.but sold to farang owners at 50 for 400bht.anyone wanting to find out why their loved one is ill ASK ON HERE FIrst
    this I recorded January 2015.

besides incompetance by vets, what my wife experianced was, when she asked for blood test results, and what brand of medications we were given, they dont like it when you ask for a change of meds.eg.our boy was given doxy for over 5months of his last 6months of his life, yet when the wife questioned the vet why is this treatment taking so long?the answer she got you cant stop now you have come so far.every time a test came clear,it was the same reply come back in 14days just to make sure,as sure as hell something else would crop up.
lets talk about TRICKS OF THE TRADE if you want to call them that.not keeping blood at a certain temp.one vet held blood for 43hrs.blood testing aps.that give false results, get a second test done at a diff.lab.medication that will make a dog depressed and off their food.there is many more.
when questioning blood tests, know what your asking about.know about the BLOOD TEST RANGE I compare any results against the one that KASERTSAT UNI.
when you have a test done there are those that are very important.
    WBC.
    RBC.
    ALT.
    CRETININE.
    HGB.
    HCT.
    MCV.
    MCH.
    PLT.
you can check these on VETINFO.COM.
then there are the parasites that never go away.
know about SNAP TESTS.and when you can do one again as there must be a long gap before you do another.
I am happy this thread can keep going with quite a few interested members as you know there is always something you can learn about.
thanks to all of you that have posted.
