I thought the Cruetzfeldt-Jacob Disease scare was over and enough time had lapsed. Perhaps more time needs to go by, or is it never again?

Lulu of course can't donate if Thailand has the same rules as NZ, which reject you if you've been with a whore recently. Does Thailand have that same rule?

    ^ Nope.

I lived in London during the 80's
Currently living back in the West (after Thailand).
The Red Cross here says 'thanks, but no thanks'.

A person who has lived in the UK between 1 January 1980 and 31 December 1996 for a total of 6 months or more is ineligible to donate blood.
Previously I used to donate because I rode Motorbikes for my living, so understood the need.

The Farm Father (my future FinL) was in the Navy.
Had his lower leg blown off from an IUD while serving in Southern Thailand.
He gave so much blood over the years he had a medal/certificate from the Thai King/Princess for his contributions.

My Thai Partner gives here, but has to wait 3 months after returning to the West after living in Thailand.
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

    Good on him.

I used to donate at the Red Cross when I lived downtown.

Apparently it's quite healthy for men to donate, as it results in new blood being made by the body. Without this, a male's blood isn't 'renewed' so their blood will be quite old.

I’m 62 years old and have been a lifelong volunteer blood donor. Got a few gallons of donations on record with the US Red Cross.

Returned from tours in central America and the middle East where I took prophylactic anti-malaria medications. The nurses were quite upset about this saying that my blood would have to be fractioned (turned into plasma) for three years post anti-malaria meds. Oh well, still donated and still got credit for it.

Several years ago, don’t remember which year, I got a “dear donor” letter from the US Red Cross saying my blood would no longer be accepted due to the fact that I have lived in Europe for more than six months. (Mad Cow Disease). Letter went on to say they expected to have a test for prions (the causative faction) within two years. Well, been a lot longer than a decade, yet, no test as of yet. My blood is still unacceptable by the US Red Cross due to the possibility of Mad Cow Disease. Have friends that donate and they relay that the disqualification question “Have you spent more than six months in Europe since 1980?” (exact wording may be slightly different) is still being asked.

Moved to Thailand. Not dealing with the US Red Cross over here. Bangkok Hospital blood drive, went to donate. Registered name, address, passport, etc. Then the physical testing, height, weight, blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, etc. All well. Still standing in the donor line (more than an hour now). Finally make it to the “final” nurse before entering the donor room. She reviews all the documentation(s) and then disqualifies me saying I’m too old. Sixty years old is their limit. Although if I got a Doctor to sign off on me they would allow me to donate.

    Yeah.

    You've never heard of menstruation?

Women generally go through it every 28 days or so.

Do you have any idea how small a quantity of blood is lost in a day of menstruation? It's negligible.
80ml for the entire period is considered heavy.
And considering red blood cells are "renewed" every 100 -120 days, it's a ridiculous thing you've posted. Blood is replaced as needed, it doesn't wear out and get old and useless.

Poor education despite a rich daddy and a school marm mummy. Quite sad. Too busy pulling girls hair, were you?

It also reduces the chance of heart disease and some cancers in males, and post menopausal women. Due to the non-menstruating issue.

Luigi thinks "renewing" blood is like an oil change in the car. Do it regularly, renew it.
It's a constant process, occurring all the time.
And now will harp on about menstruation being an avenue for "blood renewal", despite having now been informed that even heavy menstrual flow is insignificant.

Off to google now little man...scour the pages for something to back your "oil change" position up.

    ^Are you post-menopausal?

He's talking rubbish, of course, just like menstruation reduces the chance of heart disease. It's a vague possibility that blood-letting will reduce your cholesterol. It certainly will, temporarily, because you've just let out a small amount of lipids, but the proportion of lipids in your blood remains the same, obviously, and if your eating habits and lifestyle don't change, then there will be no change.

"Although donating your blood can be an altruistic gesture to help others who are in need of it, you should not solely rely on blood donation to lower your lipid levels or to prevent heart disease. If you are trying to find ways to lower your cholesterol and triglyceride levels, you should talk to your healthcare provider for more reliable methods to improve your lipid profile and heart health."

I've got the good oil, O negative, meaning I'm a universal donor. I'm popular guy at the blood banks. I always get an extra bikkie.
