I am aware that this varies greatly depending on if you are single and/or have a family.

I am curious as to 1-bedroom apartment prices, utilities, entertainment (out once or twice a week), and about how much you think it would take to live comfortably in Bangkok for a single person.

Rent and Utilities

Each month, I pay 10,000 baht for rent and 2,000 baht for condo association fees. The 2,500 baht balance goes to electric and water bills. In Thailand, property managers usually increase the rates for electricity and water–however, my current building administration just passes on the actual bills and rates. Probably less these days given rentals have dropped across the board because of a stupendous over-supply of condos coming onto the market in the past five years.

A decent one bed gaff, around 50-60 sm in a nice building in downtown Bkk would cost anywhere from 18,000 to 25,000 baht a month, depending on proximity to the BTS.
Obligatory costs for phone, cable, internet, electricity, water, taxis and BTS, say around 8,000.

Assuming one is sociable and gregarious to a normal degree then around 30,000 for pubs to include dining modestly in sensible places, cheap takeaways and diverse necessities from supermarkets and a basic home cooking regime..

Just-in-case money for treats and impromptu foolishness around 15,000.

All in all around 75,000 would secure a reasonable day-to-day life but if one wanted to scale back and live quietly from time to time then 60,000 would be reasonable.

As already mentioned about 100,000 baht a month if you want to slum it about 50,000 baht .

I used to get through 100-150k baht a month in Bangkok 1999-2003 and was paying less than 15k in rent. Best 4 years off my life not sure my liver would agree though.

I have a couple of friends, a couple both got degrees and in their early 20s no teaching experience and starting on £22k per year each with housing and other benefits thrown in. So I guess someone with experience in private or international schools in China could command considerably more.
