    Thai law - born of an alien father - not equal? Opinion

    .
    While I was looking for something else, I came across this post and I've never heard of it before.

    Section 17. With respect to a person who has Thai nationality, by reason of his having been born within the Thai Kingdom of an alien father, his Thai nationality may be revoked if it appears that:
    • He has resided in a foreign country, of which his father has or used to have nationality, for a consecutive period of more than five years as from the day of his becoming sui juris;
    • There is evidence to show that he makes use of the nationality of his father or of a foreign nationality, or that he has an active interest in the nationality of his father or in a foreign nationality;
    • He commits any act prejudicial to the security or conflicting with the interests of the State, or amounting to an insult to the nation;
    • He commits any act contrary to public order or good morals.

    The above is evidence that Thais have a slanted view towards Luk Kruengs and especially those of western/foreign fathers.
    Repealled?
    Out of context?

    Informed opinions please

    BTW, where's the thread for posting images of your kids ... couldn't see it in 'The Family Room'.

    Thanks

    Course it's true.

    It's easier to play the farang in some situations here. Mentioning otherwise can open prejudices from certain types of natives.

    Thanks Norton, but there definitely was one.

    Ant's kids were on it , as were Pragmatic's, mine also.

    If, however, it's gone, then some one (senior) member just *cough* ... and I'll get the hint.

    Pat, I'm referring to THE LAW ... as opposed to the Rule of Law which is an entirely different thing.

    I always thought it was in the Family Thread and when I didn't spot it there, had a quick look in the Members,

    This is often selective as or when it suits their prejudice. Having a Thai mum = a lot of things entitled to, but you wouldn't think so if you asked around in person.

    My daughter who will be 15 in August has been living in the UK since December 2008, renewed her Thai passport twice in that time with no issues or even any mention of losing her Thai nationality. She even got a Thai ID card while on holiday last year with no issues.

    Foreign wives of Thai men can also get a Thai passport after 5 years of continuous annual extensions of stay based on marriage, and don't have to show any proof of funds when doing extensions.

    Try ChaklyDee and Patrick, they claim to know it all when it comes to reading Thai law in the original Thai.

    http://teakdoor.com/thai-visas-and-v...zenship-7.html (Thai Citizenship)

    I see your issue, along with the "Thai dual nationality" debate, and the "owning land & usufruct" debate as falling into that category where things look OK, and there are no shortage of positive anecdotes, but there is still a lingering hypothetical uncertainty, that's not necessarily obvious... so "nothing to see here" ...sweep sweep.

    With all this gender bending in the law, perhaps the question is resolved by simply stating that you identify as a female, and your "son" calls you mum.
