You know they have seen shoes. You know that they can protect your feet....LOL..
So I have been home now for 2 + months and have been busy doing all sorts of stuff. Yesterday my wife wanted to move these two 3" thick 1.5 Meter sq cement lids that have been sitting over by my shop. Pa couldn't lift them as they weigh a lot. So I said sure, no problem. She wanted them over by the kitchen to use as an pad for the Thai BBQ pit.
So my wife and Fil wear Flip flops all the time unless in bed...(well I can speak for my wife. ). Firstly my FIl thought we were going to flip the lid over and over some 30 yds like a big tire or something. Anyway I got the hand truck and we went out to lift them up. I squatted down and lifted one up and my Fil was trying to help and he stepped underneath where the lid had been sitting and there were 2 big Scorpions and one stung him in the big toe. He started dancing around doing the Ho Chi Minh 2 step yelling "Jeb". My wife ran over and said Its Ok, they are not that poisonous they just hurt for a few days. I said "Why wont he wear shoes when doing heavy work etc"...I said you know the Chinese have seen the Spoon and the Fork and they still fight those chop sticks..LOL". My wife laughed
We got the first one moved to the area she wanted and went back to get the other one. As we were setting the 2nd one the edge caught her small toe and she screamed as it scratched it pretty good and she also did the Ho Chi Minh 2 step dancing around blaming me for the pain. I looked at both of them and pointed at my shoes and said...."If you wear shoes these things don't happen".
I have a general rule, Flip flops are for leisure not for digging holes, ridding scooters or motorcycles, lifting cement, using a weed whacker with a stainless steel blade etc. . Just the other day the neighbor damn near tore his foot off as his scooter slipped on some sand and he stuck out his foot to stop from falling nd you guessed it, flip flops on and road rash was in order. I saw him yesterday with it all bandaged up.
