    Yes there are tax implications.

Not sure about Thailand but in Aussie most dividends are franked meaning the company has already paid company tax so you do not need to pay income tax on the dividend income.

But regardless of the tax situation in CG vs Dividends the impact of tax is minimal against the bigger picture of sound fundamental value investing.

Small tax benefits should be low on the list of considerations.

That's right, I don't invest much in Australia although I do own some of Vanguard's Pacific Fund which has quite a few Australian companies in it. Sort of forgot about how they handle dividends though. Wish that was more common, would certainly simplify things for us end users.

The difference can be pretty big in the US (33% or so tax on dividends taxed as ordinary income depending on your bracket) versus 15% on capital gains (and that's only when you sell, you can run up paper gains all day long). Dividends you pay as they are distributed and you pay them even on losers. That can hurt when you go to harvest losses at the end of the year. Its a non-trivial consideration, but I agree that it shouldn't guide your investment strategy end of the day. Its something to think about in terms of how you deploy limited resources though

Yes but you have to enroll using your missus. I as a farang can have an account, can't recall at the mo, but I think I get 4%. You need to go along to your nearest Cooperative and ask. Your missus will know where one is. A Cooperative here is a 'Credit Union'. Most town/cities will have a police, nurses, teachers one. I hear the police pay the highest %, but outsiders cannot join. Teachers one is okay.

    Damn, must be nice...

My cash is drawing a measly 1.3%. And I'm pretty sure that's the highest (non-CD) rate in the states at present. Pretty pathetic

Apparently they now rotate the board annually so it can't be done.

That's not a problem. I feel safe in how I save. I can only tell my experiences. Up to others if they follow my path. Each to their own at the end of the day.

Nothing beats a solid Utility paying a decent dividend. Many up 18 to 20% ytd and pay great dividends. No broker required. Grow up and hold your own. Can't beat it, someday you'll just shake it at the one you want to piss off.

Get a decent stock app and look up some info for yourself. Don't need an English major to read a scatter plot, or an ex con for a bar chart.

Now if I could only learn to live on a teflers salary or say an old ozzy firemans pension then I'd be living the dream, or...the life of......

    the fish.

At least you are asking the right Questions.
Obviously people spend their lives contemplating the realization that they too will expire with or without the means to extend their stay.

Jeff you can chime in with some existential mumbo jumbo now. Please...

    Okay, am happy with this.

Are there another 2 or 3 reputable asset management companies here with a basic MIP?

Would be happy splitting the monthly amount evenly between them and seeing who comes out on top after the 12 month experiment.

    Cheers.
