Could become an astronaut and move to the International Space Station. No matter how much mass you have accumulated you will have almost no absolute weight and zero measurable weight.

Same thing can be accomplished with traditional Newtonian physics by using Nigel's trampoline. During the parabolic ascent and descent your mass is not exerting any measurable force and in that sense you are weightless. During the bounce your weight increases parabolically to a peak and then returns to zero as you leave the surface of the trampoline.

Using this second method you could also become aquatic and live under water where your weight will be reduced by about 90% due to the similar relative density of your new medium and your bodily mass.

Do the high ceilings really keep the house cooler? It would make sense because of hot air rising, but it is so hot everywhere in April and May that I didn't think it would make much difference unless you had a constant cross breeze.

    you are American, right?

    simple then

    eat less, eat healthy

I fail to understand what being American has to do with weight loss. Please enlighten me.
I think the obesity rate in America has something to do with their consumption of junk food perhaps? Or it could be the governments fault?
Junk food and lack of exercise. The only magic formula is burning off more calories than one takes in.

"My experience in the US showed me that Americans eat vast amounts of food, I found it impossible to get small portions anywhere

thus if most fat Americans want to lose weight, all they have to do is eat smaller portions

oh yes, of healthy food, not junk"

    Another "secret" to losing weight.

Over the years people in America demanded more for their money, hence large portions. Most of us heard from our parents, "eat everything on your plate before you get up." Many took that literaly with them into adulthood. But, not everyone eats everything on their plate and they still become over weight. It is believed that the problem is what we eat, not necessarly the amount we eat in many cases.

The only problem is, not burning off the calories you're taking onboard.

The point, as I recall, is to ensure the unit is of sufficient power relative to the area of the accommodation. Obtaining a small unit can be a false economy. Ideally, one would have an overhead fan augmented by aircon on an economic setting.

Problem with Thailand is that their obsession with profiteering to the exclusion of all else has led to a style of condo which does not allow the fitting of ceiling fans, an absolutely fucking disgrace when the range of temperature is an average of between 27 - 34c. So most are compelled to use aircon and festooning their flats with stupid floor fans that are hopelessly irritating.

Over the years Americans ate huge quantities of junk food and then found reasons why it was not their fault they were fat.

I guess that's one man's opinion; here, they're of excellent quality and very, very quiet.
Can move them where ever they are needed.

I dont use aircon at all . I find that it makes going outside unbearable , also, when using aircon, it never seems to get cold enough . May as well just open the windows and get acclimatised .
I also seem to have a constant sore throat and sniffing when using aircon .
Switch the aircon off and get used to the heat

That's the point exactly. My first year here I worked in an aircon office and lived in an aircon hotel room (at company expense).
I was never comfortable out and about. Now that I've been w/o it for 9+ years I can go anywhere, anytime in comfort. Cheers.

why would they be needed in the middle of the ceiling? as long as the air is moved around, that is all that matters

Sitting under a ceiling fan can also be quite uncomfortable if the lowest setting is quite fast

wall fans are an acceptable compromise if you can't fit a ceiling fan

I'm with the "A/C rarely" group. A/C at about 27 when on. For me a fan is essential all year though. In CM area, I don't need A/C except in the hot season.

It is the governments fault and they start the conditioning in grade school cafeterias. The US government subsidizes the processed food industry and practically forces the schools to serve complete junk in its cafeterias.

    They are creating food cravings early on in young peoples lives that will stick with them well into adult life if not forever. This is the heart of the obesity epidemic in the US. Read this;

Blame Farm Subsidies, Not Nutritionists, For America's Obesity Problem

BTW just to point out that the UK has an obesity epidemic of its own. But since most of you lot think your country is perfect go with that then.

If you submit to conditioning that is a nonsense, then that is your fault

there is enough information around to educate yourself as to what is a bad diet

Incorrect. If the government was not jamming unhealthy shit down kiddies throats at school they would not be fat to begin with.

It simplify is not cost or time efficient to eat healthy all the time in the US. Those of us who still work for a living and don't have a Thai wife/cook at our beckon call have to sometimes take unhealthy options. There just happens to be a lack of healthy options in grocery stores and restaurants. Read the first article I posted.

Also in my experience exercise is far more important to staying fit than diet.
