    Noisy Neighbours Dog

The neighbor has a 5 yr old miniature poodle that will bark at his shadow and anything else that will move on the soi outside his house. This goes on night and day. The owners both teachers are quite oblivious to the annoyance this makes to others in the street. I will be waken at any time of the night while trying to get a reasonable sleep but the shaggy voice has to let the neighbourhood know that he thinks he has seen something. He has a companion a pug faced excuse for a dog that will sometimes join in.

    What to do?

This has been raised on the forum numerous times, and the consensus each time appears to be that there is little to be done, unless you are comfortable with the poison solution. Unfortunately, it's not the dog's fault - it's the fault of the braindead assholes who own the dogs, and neglect them. I live in a gated community, and there, you at least have some hope of a solution - my community is, starting yesterday, enforcing a strict policy on strays, and has hired the city to remove all of them. Overall, however, it's pretty hopeless. There are other threads on TD somewhere which offer some options (whistles, etc), but I don't recall anything that really worked.

Only one way, kill it. Now if you've complained about him to the owners or to neighbors forget it, it's too late. You could talk it over with the dog's owner

Getting dogs to stop barking is rather easy but needs the owners to be bothered to do it. As opposed to killing the dog which I am sure that if you are daft enough to be religious is a sure way to get yourself into hell ("Why did you kill those dogs then?" ummm because they barked. "But dogs bark? did you not see them when you moved there?" ...Umm yes but they were not barking. "Did you speak to the owner?" No I was too chicken shit and decided to give a horrendous poison to the dog instead so it died coughing its internal organs on the street instead... "Oh well, asbestos underpants time for you, you sack of shit"....something like that)

    1) Speak to the owners.
    2) Speak to them again.
    3) Create so much noise that they speak to you - KARAOKE is a winner especially when they have guests
    4) Dogs bark - you start banging on their door.

Take the irritation directly back to them. Fucking kunt dog imprisoners... Buddhist my arse.

And for all the Dog Killers, I bet you have all had screaming babies.... babies that shit and puke and fart and scream all over the fucking place making the life of those without kids a night marel and then banging on about this little runts all the time "I like the smell of their shit" ... "Oh mee toooo" ..... is it OK to kill them as well?

If the owners state that they have the dog for security reasons, ask them how many occasions they get up during the night to check why their dog is barking (waking up all their neighbours)

    None? I thought so!

They are indeed both brainless and thoughtless, but you can't defeat stupid as doctors, teachers etc: appear to carry similar genes. They believe that their status allows them certain benefits such as annoying the rest of civilisation without recourse.

Don't be such a fucking chickenshit. Walk up to their house and bang on their windows and doors with a hammer every time it barks.

Rather kill someone elses pet than face that person with a reasonable demand? Spineless pieces of shit

My new neighbour brought 2 dogs that barked all night. Even though my thai is shit, next morning I stood in their door and pointed that the little yappers get moved inside. And they did.

Letting them win this Face shit, and killing dogs because you are fucking scared. Chicken shits the lot of you.

I had a nasty problem like that in the US. Every time the dogs barked too long or too late at night, I knocked on the guy's door. If i was woke up at 2am, so was he. I also got the other houses to do the same. The dogs were gone in less then two weeks.

If you kill the dog the village will zero in on you, the token farang; because Thais being Buddhist would never contemplate let alone kill an animal.

What I did once was make a recording of the dog. Played it back on a loop at full volume out my window for hours per day. You know what? It didn't work. Nobody but me was irked with the barking. The best thing to do is get him early on. Not convenient but wait till someone moves in near by and do it then. As long as you've never made your feelings public they'll suspect the new person. If you want to trump Thainess you'll never do it with farangness.

The only really thing that works in this case is downright intimidation. Most working class couples are scared shitless of fear and any kind of intimidation. If they are going to behave in a thoughtless way, you either accept it or you intimidate them to change it. However, the Thai mentality is unless challenged, they will never change their behavior. Sometimes you just have to let them know you are damn serious and there are consequences if they don't adhere. I would give them a stern talking to, if that doesn't work while they are at school and when no one is around, toss a couple of bricks through some of their windows. Wear gloves! Make sure no CCTV. Gee, didn't you see some guys on a motorcycle trying to break in???? I bet you in no time they change their behavior. No need to kill the dog for their stupidity.

Get yourself a CO2 power semi auto pistol and let the dog have a magazine full every time it barks.

This will not hurt the animal but will shock it to it's very core, thus ceasing the antisocial behavior. Amen

Tosspots opposite me used to let their dog bark it's little tits off 24/7. Until I offered to train it with a golf club.
The dog is okay actually, considering its tied up on a metal chain all the time. Occasionally, when the dumb cnut owners are out, I give it scraps of food and a bit of attention. Now when I tell it to stop barking it does.
Numpty fukcwits have no idea why their dog likes me more than them..

Rat poison, the creature is not a pet just a pest same as a rat or a snake. Don't take any notice of the bleeding hart pet lovers, they are quite happy to have cows, sheep and pigs slaughtered for them to eat.

    This is my experience.

Thais will tolerate a dog barking because that is what dogs do.

Many years ago when we moved into our home, the little dog next door barked constantly day and night. Eventually, I said something to our neighbor, who is a retired Thai lawyer and speaks English. Him and his wife apologized and moved the dog inside at night.

In the meantime we had acquired a soi dog and soon she was a member of our house. Then it was time for another one of the many Thai holidays and we decided to take off, leaving our dog in the home with our maid.

A week later we returned. Happened to see the neighbor next door and ask him the usual. He said "Everything is good, but your dog does like to cry every night".

Our maid's response when asked. "Dogs like to bark because they are dogs".

In other words, I do not have an answer to the OP.

I'd kill it, then put it in the oven.

Dog goes pretty good with an ice cold beer.

Something to consider: I don't know if you work but if you do don't people depend on you? What if you were a teacher and you had a thousand kids a week. Should they get half an education cause you got half a night's sleep? What if you were in the medical profession? That'd be even worse. And all because of the will of a dog!

Sorry, I disagree. THIS is spot on..... if it is at all practicable in the situation. It's win-win.

it has nothing to do with face, more to do with confrontation

if you ask them politely, with respect, to do something about it, let them know it is disturbing your sleep etc see what happens

if the dog is then quieter, take them round a present to help them make it even better

if they take no notice then you will have to steal it and take it away
    I have reported your post
