    To work or not?

Last time I was in Pattaya (few months back) got talking to a fellow Brit, who educated me on what you can and can not do as regards to work.

I knew that basically falang could only do specialist work and in a nut shell could not take work from a Thai.

Whilst talking to this feller he explained that I could not even paint my own house or lay one block.
Was this true,I had no idea but if the fall extent of what I heard was I was fucked and needed to pack a case.
I got the wife straight on the blower to immigration to throw some light on the subject, for some piece of mind.

It came back as I first thought,
On our land I could do pretty much as I pleased, just as long as there was no profit involved ,raising livestock for sale, selling of products grow etc.
Pleasing news as I did not need to pack a case because I was going to be bored out of me fucking nut twiddling me thumbs.

You hear so many stories hear, now am I right or wrong?.

What sort of work did you want to do, Dave? I've done loads of farming here and live right next to the cop-shop. As long you aren't making billions of baht I don't think they give a shit - but obviously don't quote me on that.

I want to keep various poultry and grow veg, fruit, the wife,s talking about selling chicken and what not.Usual case I do the graft she knocks it out in the village, she,s done all the work though if you get what I mean.

    DrAndy
I think they do give a shit.
I can,t raise chicken slaughter them then let the old women flog them.
We all know that,s what goes on,but for immigration purposes its all the wife,s doing.

As for doing building work, you are free do the lot or just the odd bit if its your own house.

Your right there are a lot of know nothings about, several beers down your neck you you start wondering if they are right.

Fuck it rules are there to break right!.

cant offer any advice about thailand dave, i live in Laos, but at my place i try to do whatever i am capable of rather than get the somchais involved, Anthing construction or electrical related i steer well clear of, but usually when a local shows up to do the job and they clock my overfed ass they tend to take the piss price wise, yet still manage to do a shite job, a few years ago i bought a nice outdoor spa from Global house in udon thani and succssfully smuggled the bastard over the border, cost me a few bucks but the plan was to sit my overfed ass in the spa and consume beer from a mini fridge bolted to the wall within arms reach ( I bolted the bastard on,) i found an english geezer in vientiane who wired it up for me, payed a bit more than local fockers(they know just enough to be dangerous) but i neednt worry about being electrocuted whilst wallowing in my spa, i reckon the bloke you spoke to in pattaya is semi correct if the locals see you doing something, and doing something well, then there will be some animosity and they will grass you up in a heartbeat, not sure how old you are dave but if your retired and you can find the right somchai then probably just better of letting them do it, while you have a cold one and supervise, just my 2 kips worth

Thanks for that bit of advice but a like do the odd bit if I can.
Mostly what I have planed is just hobby stuff really.

Fucking living it up in your hot tube fridge full of beer fucking nice!.

Tell me is right that you can,t get fuck all over there,I mean the Laos are to and throw every day nipping across the Mekong on skinny boats.
A Thai feller told me its because there,s fuck all there to buy!.

Went there once on a visa run the whole trip was a pain, enjoyed the beer though.

semi correct, You can get most things in Laos that you can get in Thailand (some things cheaper here, some there) but aside from making beerlao they excel at nothing else, They are perhaps world class panel beaters but this is a skill only learnt through repetition because they are in fact cunts of drivers, Having said all this the times they are a changin, a tesco and big C have been threatened along with decent medical care (slowly happening) and it is indeed possible to get a 1hour massage with a happy ending, Not the 2 minute testicular grope that somtamslap has to endure in deepest darkest issan administered by a bird called waraporn,

Can't see a problem with that. You do the raising and the growing and your wife does the selling, meaning that no money will essentially be exchanging hands with you.

    Good luck with it, Dave..

My uncle was a proper builder (Guild Of Master Craftsmen) who used to do work to a very high standard back in London. He does pick up the odd trowel at his place in Pattaya but he usually shows the Thai guys the best and correct way of doing stuff and because he pays way over the usual crap wage, the guys he uses are quite grateful to learn useful tricks and hints to get a proper job done and don't fit the usual stereotype of masked laokao consuming bone idle layabouts.

I resisted the temptation to open a fucking noodle shop when I was married, only for my ex-wife to open one years later with her mum in Phuttamonton along the highway.

She and her mother do a roaring trade and a big face gaining picture of her posing with Thaksin hangs proudly in the place. Maybe I should have listened back then and instead of now struggling to make ends meet back here in Cornwall I could have been the first ever luuk-kreung noodle shop tycoon.

A second shop is being planned, much to my envy.

    Stupid fucking cow.

I would say in answer to the question Gravy most deffo NOT .

Hobbies mate and enjoy your life ,, plenty of excersise , bit of a house hubby while the wife is working etc + plenty of hobby time.

I wouldn't risk it mate with immigration , you don't wanna find yourself with a big fine or worse on a one way ticket stamped no return.

Trouble is with these dreamers sauced up in bars , they are trying to convince themselves that what they are doing is legal , by trying to convince others to , the theory being if enough people think that way then it will come to be .

Which of course is total bollox , and of course as per usual because of these dreamers who with a nudge and a wink will get by the rest who do play by the rules have to suffer . i.e.. money in the bank at renewal etc etc .
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

Im not a builder but can lay a brick/block better than most Ive seen here.Be fucked if Im paying for anything I can do,and the wages I do shell out will not be inflated.
Work here is hard to come by,the going rate is appreciated.

    Rural Surin
    Yes thats the wife,s plan.
Sure its not going to happen!

    nigelandjan
We have checked with immmigration, fucking had to after my long conversation in Pattaya.
I said to the feller if what you say is right sounds like I need to pay some cnut to wipe me ass.

A lot of rules here are confusing and seem to differ from one place to the next.I have been told that if there,s no money been made what I do on our land is not a problem.

Obviously if we have any thing to knock out the old women is in charge, just hope she don,t give to much away!.

Just thought I would let you lot know this is my second attempt to post this.On the first I was almost finished when me thumb hit either ctrl button.

What the fuck does it do,had to start again.
I need some serious schooling with this gadget!

    Hey Ghost
Yes your right even a thick cnut like me who can,t fucking spell!

Sure the language Thais could learn from me would get them by in England a lot better than stuff they taught from books.

A bit to colourful some of my language I know, fuck it not a good idea!

Serious did not come here to teach or do in other 9to5 job.
Good luck for those that do teach whether your the bollocks or blagging your way along, money in your bin to all.

The only drawback with this is that he would also require to have a comprehension with Thai - which he doesn't.

This looks like a beautiful set up. I have a serious question for you however. What is the benefit or enjoyment of sitting in hot water when the air temp is as hot or hotter than the water? My best and most memorable hot tubing was in a ski resort, with a beer in hand and snow flakes floating onto my head. Please explain to me the enjoyment here in south Asia?

    cheers

Just another Pattaya armchair expert then- the place is full of them.

Out here in the boondocks, nobody much gives a toss. We've got farangs farming quite openly, running shops & restaurants, employed as teachers in private schools with the vague assurance that one day it will be made legal and above board. All very different to down south, but I do think they leave themselves vulnerable- and it's a good excuse for me not doing any work .

Its easily explained old son, it has a thermostat. i can set it to whatever temperature i want, havent used the heater much as the tubs main function is for me to sit in it and drink cold beer when its fuckin hot, it does on occasion get a bit nippy at night in vientiane but not often, there is also a flatscreen and stereo , its the ultimate in decadent and slothful behaviour
