Bangkok International Schools -which is best

My Thai daughter is 13 and we have decided to bite the bullet and send her to a better school--she had previously been at an international one but we changed to what i think is a second division one --she will need to be a boarder
Am looking at Regents /Harrow/Bromsgrove and would appreciate comments on them ,whilst I am sure there is and will be no problem with the English side I am particularly anxious that she will be completely able in the Thai side of things as my wife and myself hope that her life and work will be in Thailand

Help and advice will be much appreciated

I am sold on ISB. If I had children, I would pay their outrageous fees.

I see. I know some teens that live near there and for some reason, I thought they had boarding there.

Not really wanting to be contentious.

    But.

Why spend a small fortune on an International School in Bangkok but at the same time plan for your Daughter have a "career" in Thailand? She'll earn maybe Baht 20,000.- a month at best and will have no real advancement prospects - there are just SO many negatives to your idea.

My daughter went to ISB and is now earning a very high six figure income in UK (GBP 6 figures that is).

Yes I realise that Parents want to keep their children close and that will be a major reason for you and (especially) your wife to concentrate on keeping her here, but believe me she will not thank you for limiting her future in this way.

My kids are in Harrow. The school is British curriculum and they are at the IGSCE year now. They have boarding and its all done well. But with boarding you would be looking at close to if not 1,000,000 baht a year. I have nothing but good things to say about the school.

Indeed it has changed my kids life.

I think that's aiming pretty low for a graduate from this school. 20K isn't that high a salary in BKK these days.

Yes that 20k figure is complete bollocks, Thais from Thai state schools earn significantly more than that. Not all of them I know before the smart arses come up with their statistics.
Don’t argue with idiots because they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

I know a lot of Thais making way more than 20k a month.

Some of them make 100K plus.

From a top international high school and a degree from a noteable local university, entry level must be around 30K. Get the degree overseas in the west and it's probably higher.

Re post #5, With respect Patrick, I would'nt send my kids to a western country
like the UK or Australia for that matter. As indicated by other posters, if the young ones have a good education in Thailand and apply themselves, they will do very well.

The comments on working in the Uk/west are very true ,however if you are exceptional here you will have a tremendous lifestyle --from what I see, to be outstanding doesnt involve as much competition as elsewhere.
For me the dilemma is that there is such a huge gulf between the top and other schools there really isnt any halfway house hence my decision to bite the bullet and go for the best even though it is hugely expensive

AO - what's the annual tuition per child - say early high school years?

That sounds about right. But those are entry level professional and low-mid managerial jobs. The average wage for Thais working in BKK is around 10-12,000 / month

Which is what a person would be expecting to get if they complete University...

Which includes the poor folk on 100 or 200 baht a day and thus is a nonsense figure to use.

i'd be careful about them losing their Thai if they go to a full Int school. IME the few Thai lessons are treated like play time. A bit like an English class in a government school..

The way I'm playing it is get a full education in the west (Australia) from primary all the way through, whilst keeping close Thais to Thailand, regular skypes with relos, yearly or more visits, and the mother schooling the reading and writing, then they have the option of Thailand or the west for their chosen careers. Trying to make it as open as possible.

I will stick to what I was reffering to in an earlier post, if I had a choise I would'nt be sending a daughter to get an education in Ozz. The class rooms might be ok, just, its what they are taught after that concers me.

I certainly wouldn't put a child into the australian education system other than Geelong Grammar.

This board is proof of such folly.

    Are you serious? Why not?

The Aussie system shits all over the UK, USA and most of Europe apart from Scandanavia (which Australia is modelling itself on).

Nice mate that's what I plan to do, maybe as late as 5 or 6 years old.
