5 nights and days in Vietiane.... what would you do?

    Well that's it really.

    What would you do?

    What have you done?

    What would you recommend?

    What would you condemn?

Me and her, a mate and his are flying down on the 26th. Back on the 31st.

Guest house has a pool and a bar so me and him are relatively happy.

I'd like to make the effort though so if you've got any advice please advise.

    Cheers

You're taking the Mrs, so my suggestion of going on a methamphetamine and opium binge and getting completely fried, won't really help.

Oh, and by the way it's fcking freezing at night.
I'm going in 5 days time, don't what to, nothing to do, place is full of ladyboys, bars and clubs can be dangerous. Good food and wine though.
It's actually a bit like Thailand with absolutely all the good bits removed and all the shit bits added to.

went three years ago for new year, incredibly disappointing as everything seem to shut about 9.30. Only stayed two days and that was a day too long. Meal by the river and a trip to the market was about all there is to do along with a ride around town in a tuk tuk to look at the sites, mainly the wats.

It's not that bad at the moment.

Vientiane is good for eating decent food and drinking wine or Dark Beer Lao. Otherwise it's a ghost town.

Walk around, find a place to eat, avoid the Nazim Indian on the riverfront, great naan bread etc but the curry I ordered may as well have been vegetarian.

scandanavian bakery nr the fountain does great breakfast bagel stuff, Xaiyoh (?) does decent food too.

Find the right tuk-tuk driver to take you to the right places to meet the right girls and you'll have a whale of a time, at least I did.

waterfalls trip few km out of the city

I rented a motorbike, went out past the airport and then found a sign for a waterfall, probably 5 km after airport going left in the fields...

It is then a 9 km drive on a dirt road and suddenly you have a lady in the middle of nowhere asking for a small fee to open a gate.

Pass the gate and down there is a very nice few level waterfall.

Seems to be the picnic spot of the Vien people, nice place, take your swimming wear...

I would say if you don't raise the bar too high you won't be dissapointed. Going the without plans or expecatations may mean you having a great time and finding something that others haven't seen, well I hope it's a pleasant time anyway, perhaps a thread with some pics when you get back to show us how it went.

Cheers Rob. That's the right attitude. We'll play it by ear.

Might do a thread... We'll see.

    Cheers again.
