This is the entrance to the farm. You can see a truck in the upper left coming through the gate. Pic was taken from the upper level of the house. The pole is a power line for the water pump down by the creek. We have gas and electric pumps for irrigation.

On our stretch no border land has chanote and could be reclaimed by military on a whim, there are many fine new villas in prime sites all dirty money and important players ,best of a way from such shenanigans in my view ,tho I came here for a quiet life. For a trainees smuggler ideal spot
I used to have a job at a calendar factory.

This is a piece my wife bought off the same neighbors father back in 2004. I think she paid 1500us back then. The creek is beyond the tree line. She owns to the creek. The sisters farm it. Maybe I should have titled this thread "raising the price of farm land by the Mekong river."

Sorry fishlocker, I've given you a bum steer, they have moved the goal post, RE residency, can still be done but they have made more obstacles, a bit like Thailand the laws change on a whim. Anyway I still like living here and will leave if and when I get sick of of the xenophobia, in the meantime it's working for me, just gotta wind your watch by about 20 years

I've got time. Could always get the Thai visa and travel when the time comes. Right now just visit. I'm not ready to slow to the pace of Laos. I'm still hard wired to the ways of the new world. This is not good I know but will have to work towards the goal of doing nothing for most of the time.

The water just off the rocks is deeper than the paddle. I tried to touch bottom before getting up to land. In rainy season this would be several meters under. Farther upriver it gets really deep as the river narrows. They say big fish are there but it is dangerous. Im gonna need a bigger boat. Outfit it wth gas lamps and do some night fishing for catfish. There are some monsters in here for sure.

Some rapids. It was here a saw a heavy trot line with some good sized hooks with fish heads for bait on them. They say the fish they were after had "teeth". There are things in this river you may not want tangle with. The fresh water stingray being one you must be careful with. When I get a bigger boat and locator I will seek them out along with the catfish. I will not keep rays or any large cats but do want to land a few just for fun.

Another view of the piece purchased. This was the eastern property line. Now it's all the way to the creek past the east tree line.

Local kids show off to me their game. Slingshot hunters. Another reason their is not too many creepy crawlies in the area. I think their folks stew this stuff up or something. Really! A tamarind tree base is at 1 o'clock.

We drink into the night in town. This woman got soo fcked up she pissed her pants while passed out at a picnic table. Her husband and friends dragged her home. This may be my best action shot. Not too steady myself I must say.Note my fried to the left having a grin from the disposition of the gal.

We have a large tamarind tree. Look top center to see a boy who climes up to shake the fruit loose. Hope you enjoyed the pics.I'll have to find the "right" way to post and start a real picture thread. Thanks for bearing with me on this.I'm no photographer or computer wiz. The fish.
